If you leave in the middle of drafting a Facebook post, you’re given the option to save a draft. But what happens to that draft after you navigate away? If you’re posting on your personal profile, Facebook’s draft saving options are pretty limited. As long as you don’t close the app or the website, your draft will be temporarily saved in the “What’s on your mind?” box. If you have a Facebook Page, you can save multiple drafts and access them via the Meta Business Suite. Read on to learn where Facebook stores your drafts and how to restore them.

Where are Facebook drafts saved?

  • If you’re using your personal profile, you can save one draft at a time directly in the “What’s on your mind?” text field.
  • Drafts of personal posts disappear if you start composing a new post or exit the app or website.
  • If you have a Page, you can save drafts in the Meta Business Suite website or app. Access those drafts by going to Content > Posts > Drafts.

Finding Drafts on Your Personal Profile

  1. Reopen the “What’s on your mind?” Reopen the “What’s on your mind?” box to find your draft. Facebook only allows you to save one draft at a time, and it will be stored in the “What’s on your mind?” text field at the top of your profile. If you exit the app or leave the page, your draft will disappear.
    • If you’re in the mobile app, make sure to tap Save Draft if you exit in the middle of composing a post. Tap What’s on your mind? at the top of your profile or news feed to restore the draft.
    • If you’re using the website, a draft will be saved automatically if you click the X at the top right corner of the box while you’re composing a post. Simply click What’s on your mind? to reopen the draft.
    • Once you discard the draft, start a new post, or exit the Facebook app (or website), your draft will disappear, and you won’t be able to restore it.
    • This method also works for draft posts on Pages, but you can access additional tools for Pages in Meta Business Suite.

  1. Step 1 Save a post as a draft in Meta Business Suite. 1 Save a post as a draft in Meta Business Suite. If you have a Facebook Page, you can create and access draft posts using Meta Business Suite. The process for making and saving a draft varies depending on whether you’re using the desktop website or the mobile app:
    • Website:[1]
      • Click Pages in the left-hand menu bar. You can do this from your personal account, as long as it’s the account linked to the Page you want to manage.
      • Click Meta Business Suite in the left-hand menu.
        • You can also go directly to business.facebook.com and log in with the Facebook account associated with your Page.
      • Click Create post at the top of the page.
      • Start composing your post. You can add pictures or other media if you like.
      • Click Finish later. It’s at the bottom of the page. Your draft will be saved.
        • You might see a warning asking you if you want to discard your changes or continue editing. Even if you choose Discard Changes, your draft should still be saved.
    • Mobile app:
      • Download the Meta Business Suite app if you haven’t already. You’ll need to sign in with the login information associated with your Facebook Page.
      • Tap Create post. You might need to scroll down to see it.
      • Select your Facebook Page in the Select where to publish menu. Tap Done.
      • Compose your post and tap Next.
      • Select Save as draft and tap Save Draft at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Step 2 Access your drafts from the Content menu. 2 Access your drafts from the Content menu. Depending on whether you’re using the website or the mobile app, this process will vary slightly:
    • Website:
      • Navigate back to the Meta Business Suite page and click Content in the left-hand menu bar. It’s the icon with two overlapping squares right below the calendar icon.
      • You should automatically be taken to the Posts & reels screen. If not, click the icon that looks like a box with three lines in it at the top left side of the page.
      • Click the Drafts tab near the top of the page.
      • Click the draft you want to work on. From here, you can edit the draft some more and save it for later, publish the draft, or click Cancel to exit without making any changes.
        • You can delete drafts from the Drafts tab. Click the ••• button next to the draft, then click Manage post > Delete post.
        • If you have multiple drafts saved, you should see them all in the Drafts tab. If they’re not all visible, refresh the page a couple of times to get them to appear.
    • Mobile app:
      • In the Meta Business Suite app, tap Content at the bottom of the screen.
      • Tap the Posts tab at the top of the page.
      • Tap the dropdown near the top of the menu and select Drafts.
      • Tap a draft to continue working on it, or tap ⋮ next to a draft to access additional options (like Edit, Publish Now, Schedule, or Delete).
