Events[]

Early life[]

As a child Reade was a camper at Mulmur Hills Football Camp where he befriends Coach Jones who later turned out to be rapist. Later he attended the University of Michigan. Where he still holds a receiving record in football.

It was implied that Reade might have been the first agent working alongside Weller and Patterson as part of the CIRG division led by Bethany Mayfair.

Season 1[]

Jane Doe Case[]

While on an ongoing investigation in Rural Kentucky, Weller was called back to NY for an urgent matter regarding a critical incident with a newly found amnesiac woman left in Times Square with his name tattooed on her back. Reade and Zapata were ordered to cross-reference every similar MO with all the convicted suspects arrested by Kurt. On their first tattoo related case, he helped Weller to prevent the death of dozens of civilians inside of a subway car.

Reade reacted skeptically around Jane, often openly admitting to Zapata how mysterious the circumstances around her case were, suspecting that Jane could have been part of some conspiracy. They got off on the wrong start, seeing her as a liability, mostly due to Weller's lack of objectivity around Jane.

Eventually, Reade accepted Jane as part of the team after she demonstrated loyalty to the group and commitment to the cases. However, an on going investigation led by Jonas Fischer where he accused Jane of being a Russian spy and Thomas Carter's murderer, made Reade and Mayfair grow increasingly suspicious of Jane's alibi the night Carter's disappearance.

Season 2[]

Season 3[]

Reade becomes Assistant Direct of the FBI NY office while Weller takes leave to search for Jane.

Season 4[]

Season 5[]

Death[]

During their escape from Madeline, Reade and the team hid in a cabin in Iceland with the help of one of Rich's contacts. After a call from Weitz alerted them of an incoming drone strike, Reade and the team took refuge in an underground hatch. The drone hit the cabin, causing a violent explosion so massive that even Jane could feel its force from a few miles away.

Jane rushes back to the cabin to find the rest of the team buried in the rubble. Weller and Patterson are able to get out, but find that Reade and Zapata are pinned beneath the rubble. Reade attempted to protect Zapata during the blast, but realized the weight of his body and the rubble were blocking her airway. When the two are found, Reade instructs Weller to drag Zapata out from under him while he pushes up against the rubble. Weller tells him that it is too heavy and they won't be able to do it, but Reade manages to push himself up enough for Weller to grab Zapata, freeing and eventually saving her. Just as Weller pulls Zapata free, more debris falls from the shifting rubble, and Reade succumbs to the weight of the debris, getting crushed and killed.

Relationships[]

Sarah Weller[]

Reade and Sarah begin dating at the beginning of Season 1 without telling Kurt Weller, Sarah's brother, about their secret relationship. The pair was a relatively happy couple. When Kurt discovered that Reade and Sarah were together, he was angry and told Reade to break it off. Kurt wanted to protect Sarah and Sawyer from having another person in their life who was constantly in danger. Reade and Sarah continue their relationship, and Sarah tells Reade that she loves him. During a case that the team is working on, Reade is forced to end the relationship, telling Sarah that he doesn't love her, after a man threatens to kill Sarah and Sawyer.

Nikki[]

Nikki was the ex-girlfriend of Freddy, Reade's childhood friend from football camp who was also sexually abused. She stormed into Reade's apartment when she couldn't find Freddy, and accused him of betraying Freddy as a friend. Later, she comes back to apologize, and Reade and she started sleeping together. Nikki also uses cocaine recreationally and convinces Reade to partake so that he can let loose. This leads to Reade developing a mild cocaine addiction, using during the week when he is at work. During a random FBI drug screen, his results come back positive, but Director Hirst covers it up so that she has leverage over him. Tasha and Weller convince Reade to take personal time to recover from the drugs and return once he is completely clean.

Tasha Zapata[]

Reade and Tasha are shown as best friends, often somewhat flirtatious but clearly very close and dependent on each other. As the show progresses, the two of them start to rely on each other to talk about important issues regarding Jane Doe. During a case when Reade is injured, he kisses Tasha. She tells him that they are best friends and it was only the pain killers that he is on that caused him to kiss her. Tasha convinces Reade to forget the kiss ever happened so that things could go back to the way it was, and Reade agrees.

After the team separates in Season 3, Tasha realizes that she is in love with Reade. Reade, however, has moved on and is living with his girlfriend, Megan Butani. Tasha decides to keep her feelings to herself, especially because she really likes Megan. When Reade proposes to Megan, he asks Tasha to be his best man. Tasha tells Reade that she can't be at his wedding because she realized that she is in love with him.

Megan Butani[]

Megan is an investigative journalist who met Reade when she was conducting research for one of her articles. When Megan is introduced, she and Reade are already living together. As the season progresses, Reade tells the team that he plans on proposing to Megan. Reade plans a romantic vacation in Europe with the proposal in mind, but it is revealed that Megan is an undocumented immigrant, and she is scared that if she leaves the country she wouldn't be able to return. Reade then proposes to her in their living room, and Megan says yes. Reade then tries to use his connections in the state department to obtain citizenship for her, but is unable to as corruption within the department comes to light.

Megan begins wedding planning with Reade. As she is trying to coordinate with the team, she finds out that Tasha has decided to not go to the wedding. Megan confronts Reade about this, and realizes that Tasha admitted her feelings to him. Megan also realizes that even though Reade loves her, part of him has always been in love with Tasha. When Reade returns to the apartment that night, Megan has her bags packed and breaks off the engagement.
