The Difference Between Edible Gold and Regular Gold LeafPure 24kt Gold
Pure gold leaf is 24 karat, known for its softness and delicacy. Due to its malleability, pure gold is typically mixed with other alloys to enhance its hardness and adjust its color. This is why most jewelry is made of 18kt or 22kt gold, incorporating metals like copper to increase durability. Gold leaf follows the same principle. By blending with copper, silver, and other metals, it achieves a range of colors, from reddish tones to bright yellow and white gold. However, these alloys, especially copper, are not safe for consumption.
Our Edible Gold is nearly pure gold, mixed only with silver, which is edible and safe for ingestion. This makes it entirely digestible. We also offer Edible Silver in leaf and dust forms..
Can we eat Edible Gold?
Yes, Edible Gold is safe to consume. Gold is an inert metal that passes through the digestive system without being absorbed, exiting the body within 24 hours without causing any harm or reaction.
Purity of Edible Gold
All our Edible Gold products are 23kt, consisting of 98% pure gold and 2% pure edible silver. The addition of silver helps harden the otherwise soft 24kt gold, ensuring it maintains its form when used on food or in beverages.
Interestingly, the alloy used for the flame of the Statue of Liberty is similar to that used in Edible Gold. The gilded flame has withstood various weather conditions for many years without any adverse effects.
Can you eat too much Edible Gold?
According to European Regulations, there is no limit to the amount of Edible Gold that can be ingested (Quantum Satis). However, the purpose of Edible Gold is to impress aesthetically rather than to be consumed in large quantities.
