Jacob and Elena met each other during a school function at Mystic Falls Elementary School after Elena's friend, Caroline Forbes introduced them to each other. They've been best friends ever since, however they both developed romantic feelings for one another.

As of now, Jacob and Elena are happily married and living in Mystic Falls, raising their two daughters Bonnie and Caroline.

Elena and Jacob met during a school function at Mystic Falls Elementary School which was not that long after meeting Caroline and Bonnie. Coincidentally, Elena is the other best friend of his two best friends, Caroline and Bonnie. Some time during the third grade

In First Encounter, Elena and Jacob are established as longtime friends and are romantically in love with each other. During the first day of school, Jacob runs late, causing Elena to worry after Caroline begins searching for him. Afterward, Jacob finally shows up to school and is berated by Mr. Tanner, his history teacher. That night, Jacob was working his shift at the grill alongside Matt's older sister, Vicki, and is In Dreams, Elena becomes concerned for Jacob when he falls asleep during history class and realizes he hasn't gotten any sleep the previous night.

In School's Out... Finally Elena finally builds up the courage to tell Jacob how she feels about him. They share a passionate kiss.

In 'Til Death Do Us Part'' Elena and Jacob get married.

Every Heart, Elena and Jacob are getting married and learn that their friend Bonnie Bennett used a fertility spell on Elena so she and Jacob could have children. After the wedding, Elena goes into labor and eventually gives birth to her and Jacob's daughter Bonnie Hayley Rebekah Fogerty.
