This page covers the Elk location in RDR2, and how to get a Perfect Elk Pelt. The Elk is a massive animal in Red Dead Redemption 2 . You'll most likely find this in the mountains near ponds. You'll need a Perfect Elk Pelt for part of the Tonics Satchel or Kit Satchel.

The Rocky Mountain Bull Elk is native to Ambarino and northern New Hanover. Their herbivorous diet includes grasses, leaves, bark and plants. Elk are easily startled, so it is advised to keep as much distance as possible whilst hunting. Long range weapons like a Bow with Improved Arrows, or a long scope rifle, are considered to be the best for hunting. Their skin and antlers can be used for crafting, and their mature venison is a good source of food.

You can specifically find the Elk along the banks of the Cattail Pond, northeast of Wallace Station.

How Kill the Elk in Red Dead 2 for a Perfect Elk Pelt

To get a perfect Pelt, you'll have to find a Perfect Elk and use the right weapons to kill it.

Elks are the larger cousin of a deer. They are skidish if you get near, so keep your distance. This should work out fine since a sniper rifle is the best choice for a clean kill, but if you don't have one, craft an improved arrow instead. These are a lot easier to come by.

You can craft an improved arrow with a regular arrow and one Flight Feather. Kill pretty much any bird that takes flight to get a Flight Feather.

If you haven't hunted much before, be sure to visit the Hunting Tips and Strategy page or the How to Get a Perfect Pelt guide.

Upon killing a pristine Elk perfectly, you'll earn a perfect Elk pelt, Elk antlers, and mature venison.

Best Weapons and Ammo for a Perfect Elk Pelt

  • Sniper Rifle with any ammo, except explosive
  • Bow with Improved Arrows

Perfect Elk Pelt Uses

The Perfect Elk Pelt can be used along with a Perfect Deer Pelt and a Perfect Panther Pelt to construct the Kit Satchel, or a Perfect Deer Pelt and a Perfect Buck Pelt to construct the Tonics Satchel.
