We named our son after my husband’s Grandpa who passed away at a young age. Not only did we want to pass along his name, but we loved the meaning of it. The name Ellis is derived from the Hebrew name “Elijah,” which means “Yahweh is my God.” The name symbolizes devotion, faith, and trust in God. Our son has truly been a gift from God and his name reminds us so!

We loved the sound of it alongside our first son’s name, Rylan. It means benevolant and kind in the English origin.

I don’t remember the first time I heard the name Ellis, but I knew I adored it right away. In fact, we almost used it for another child (who is now Elli’s proud big brother) years ago, but decided on Emmett for him instead. When we found out we were having our fourth boy, Ellis was the only name we both still agreed on! My only “dislikes” in hindsight is that I realize it’s way too close to my aforementioned Emmett, which has me mixing up their names more times than I’d like to admit. Another thing I’ve realized is that baby girls are starting to be named Ellis. And while never in my wildest dreams would I have thought of girls named Ellis (it sounds so masculine to me), I guess that is indeed a thing.

We love the name Ellis as it is unique, has special meanings that relate to my husband and I, and it is the stadium where South Africa was able to come together in a time of need under Nelson Mandela (my husband is South African :).)

We chose Ellis because it’s an old name, isn’t super common and short n sweet.
