Empire on FOX has proved such a hit with viewers that some are wondering if season six could be given a release date ahead of the fifth season’s finale. Empire season five returns to FOX in the USA on March 13, 2019, and, while season six is yet to be officially given the green light, there are already plenty of rumours to suggest when another series will be released. Here’s everything we know so far about Empire season six – from a release date and plot to trailer and cast.

When is Empire season 6 released?

Empire season six may not yet be confirmed by show bosses at FOX but there are a few clues to suggest when it could start.

If season six of Empire follows the same schedule as the fifth series, Empire fans may be able to expect another instalment on FOX in September 2019.

FOX’s first season of Empire is, in fact, the only series to not be released in September so far.

In the UK, each season of Empire has been released a month later in October each year.

The first three seasons aired on Channel 4’s E4, while seasons four and five aired and continue to air on Channel 5 sister channel 5STAR.

Who will star in Empire season 6?

The cast of Empire season six will largely depend on whether or not any characters say their goodbyes in the Empire season five finale.

A number of Empire series regulars do look almost certain to return, however, including the likes of Terrence Howard (as Lucious Lyon) and Bryshere Gray (as Hakeem Lyon).

Jussie Smollett (as Jamal Lyon), Trai Byers (as Andre Lyon), and Taraji P Henson (as Cookie Lyon) could also appear in season six having starred in every episode of Empire to date.

Empire season six could also welcome back the likes of Ta’Rhonda Jones (as Porsha), Gabourey Sidibe (as Becky), and Serayah (as Tiana Brown) to its cast.

What will happen in Empire season 6?

Similar to the cast, the plot for Empire season six will depend largely on how season five ends come spring 2019.

Ahead of a series renewal, plot details surrounding season six are also being kept relatively under wraps by Empire show bosses.

So far in season five, viewers have witnessed finances pose a strain on Lucious and Cookie’s relationship, Andre strike up a new romance, and Jamal and Kai (Toby Onwumere) announcing their engagement.

Season six will likely still follow the narratives set up in the fifth series – Empire fans in the USA can catch up on the action so far on Hulu.

Is there a trailer for Empire season 6?

An Empire season six trailer hasn’t been released yet and is unlikely to drop anytime soon.

With season five still yet to return from its mid-season break, a season six trailer will likely arrive after the current run has finished.

Once Empire is renewed and production comes to an end, a trailer will more than likely be released.

Empire season 5 returns to FOX in the USA on March 13.
