Minecraft's End Cities are large structures that only appear in The End, specifically the Outer Islands. To get to the Outer Islands, you need to defeat the Ender Dragon, after which an End Gateway Portal will appear that will take you there. You'll then be able to search the islands for an End City.

End Cities are not actually cities, but are instead tall towers made from End Stone Bricks and Purpur Blocks; the city part comes from how complex these interconnected towers can be. They can have many different rooms, and are guarded by many Shulkers that disguise themselves as End Stone blocks.

Perhaps more valuable than the End City itself are the End Ships, which have a small chance of appearing at an End City. It will be some distance away, so you'll either need to build a bridge, or throw an Ender Pearl to teleport over to it. End Ships are the only places in the game to get Elytra wings, which let you glide through the air. They are also guarded by Shulkers.

End City Loot

Chests found in End Cities and End Ships have a chance of containing some of the following items:

  • Beetroot Seeds
  • Diamond
  • Diamond Horse Armor
  • Emerald
  • Enchanted Diamond Armor
  • Enchanted Diamond Pickaxe / Shovel / Sword
  • Enchanted Iron Armor
  • Enchanted Iron Pickaxe / Shovel / Sword
  • Gold Ingot
  • Golden Horse Armor
  • Iron Horse Armor
  • Iron Ingot
  • Saddle
