Hatches can spawn in common locations in Dead by Daylight, and they're used as a means of escape if a specific requirement is met. Although a hatch can help survivors win a match, there are also some downsides to seeking one out. Generally, hatches are used as a last resort to escape, but there aren't any available at the beginning of a Trial, and they are only useful for the last survivor left alive. On some of the maps, the hatch location is completely random, but there are a number of areas that have specific spawn points.

Hatches can be used as a last resort to escape a Trial when the exit gate isn't powered up, but they are only accessible under certain conditions. If the exit gate is open, it's usually worth going for instead of the hatch because it has a set location. Even though the killer may be waiting near the exit, it's also possible that they find the hatch first and stay near it. A hatch will spawn when there's only one survivor left in Dead by Daylight. Previous versions of the game would spawn the hatch if the number of repaired generators exceeded the number of survivors left, but recent updates eliminated this stipulation. A hatch will spawn at the beginning of a Trial, but it remains invisible until the requirement for using it has been met.

Even though the hatch is invisible initially, players can track it using the map if a black silk cord is equipped. When the hatch becomes visible, it will automatically open. However, the killer may reach it first and close the hatch. In this case, it will require a key, but it takes a few seconds to open and leaves the survivor vulnerable to attack. Additionally, it's common for the killer to wait by the hatch and grab the last survivor in Dead by Daylight before they have the chance to escape. Even though using a hatch comes with risks, it's the preferable method of escape when there's no one else left alive and the exit gate remains closed.

Common Hatch Spawn Locations In Dead By Daylight

The hatch spawn locations are random, but each map has a few spots where hatches appear frequently. Players also have the chance to influence the location by burning the Annotated Blueprint for a hatch near the Killer's Shack, or by burning Vigo's Blueprint to spawn a hatch near the map's primary landmark. Otherwise, players can try one of the common spawn locations to find a hatch and quickly escape the Trial. Some of the maps aren't listed because the hatch locations are completely random and there aren't any specific spots that are more common than others. Searching near the Killer's Shack or the center of the area on the more randomized maps may help with finding a hatch in Dead by Daylight.

• Azarov’s Resting Place (Autohaven Wreckers Realm): Hatches will usually spawn near the generators or close to the edge of the map, but they are very random.
• Blood Lodge (Autohaven Wreckers Realm): In the southern part of the map, a hatch can be found inside the lodge.
• Wretched Shop (Autohaven Wreckers Realm): This hatch will spawn behind the shop near the barrels.
• Fractured Cowshed (Coldwind Farm Realm): The hatch spawns north of the blimp’s crash site.
• Rancid Abattoir (Coldwind Farm Realm): This hatch usually spawns in the room with the hanging pigs in Dead by Daylight.
• Rotten Fields (Coldwind Farm Realm): The hatch for this map can be found in the fields near the exit, but the exact location is random.
• The Thompson House (Coldwind Farm Realm): At the back of the house, the hatch can be found on the porch.
• Torment Creek (Coldwind Farm Realm): This hatch will usually spawn next to the wrecked building.
• Disturbed Ward (Crotus Prenn Asylum Realm): Hatches on this map will sometimes spawn near a bonfire.
• Father Campbell’s Chapel (Crotus Prenn Asylum Realm): The hatch mostly spawns inside the small shack.
• The Game (Gideon Meat Plant Realm): This hatch commonly spawns at the bottom of the stairs leading to the lowest level.

• Lampkin Lane (Haddonfield Realm): On this map, the hatch will be in the road near the center or at one of the ends.
• The Underground Complex (Hawkins National Laboratory Realm): The hatch for this map spawns on the bottom floor.
• Coal Tower (The MacMillan Estate Realm): The hatch can spawn near the two-story wheelhouse directly next to the Coal Tower.
• Groaning Storehouse (The MacMillan Estate Realm): On this map in Dead by Daylight, there’s a chance for a hatch to spawn inside or along the outside of the large building.
• Ironworks of Misery (The MacMillan Estate Realm): Inside the main building, the hatch can spawn between the pipes on the ground floor.
• Shelter Woods (The MacMillan Estate Realm): There are a few known locations for the hatch to spawn on this map. Some of the spawn locations are near the edge of the map, but one can also appear right next to the cabin.
• Suffocation Pit (The MacMillan Estate Realm): On this map, the hatch will usually spawn behind the big house close to the ramp.
• Mount Ormond Resort (Ormond Realm): This hatch spawns most frequently beside a generator.
• Mother’s Dwelling (Red Forest Realm): The hatch usually spawns next to one of the tall trees, but it’s very random.
• Badham Preschool (Springwood Realm): On this map, the hatch will spawn on the road near the exit or in the boiler room.

The rest of the maps are too randomized to determine a common location, but there are still a few spots to search. Generally, a hatch will spawn around the perimeter of the map, at the center, or next to a generator. As the last survivor in Dead by Daylight, the player searching for a hatch will likely be racing the killer to find it. It's recommended that players become familiar with the common spawn points to figure out the best way to escape if the killer is waiting at the hatch. Generally, hatches are a last resort, but they offer an alternate path for the last survivor to escape in Dead by Daylight.
