Introduction

EXO is a popular South Korean-Chinese boy group formed by SM Entertainment in 2011. They officially debuted on April 12, 2012, with nine members: Xiumin, Suho, Lay, Chen, D.O., Kai, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, and Sehun. Originally, EXO had twelve members, split into two sub-units: EXO-K (focused on the South Korean market) and EXO-M (focused on China). However, following the departures of Kris, Luhan, and Tao in 2014 and 2015, EXO continued as a nine-member group. EXO gained widespread recognition with their first album, XOXO, released in 2013. The album included the hit singles "Wolf" and "Growl" and sold over one million copies. Following this, they released hits after hits. Their more recent albums, such as "Don't Mess Up My Tempo" (2018) and "Exist" (2023), have also been successful, with "Exist" selling over 2 million copies in South Korea. In addition to their group activities, EXO launched two sub-units: EXO-CBX in 2016, consisting of Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin, and EXO-SC in 2019, with Sehun and Chanyeol. EXO has received numerous awards, including Album of the Year at the MAMA Awards and Artist of the Year at the Melon Music Awards. They have performed over 100 concerts and earned recognition on Forbes Korea's Power Celebrity list. EXO has also been involved in charity work, such as the Smile For U project with SM Entertainment and UNICEF. On June 1, 2023, Baekhyun, Chen, and Xiumin revealed the termination of their exclusive contracts with SM Entertainment. It was also confirmed on October 18 that D.O. would be leaving SM Entertainment as his contract was set to expire in early November. However, he will continue to be a member of EXO. Later, on January 7, 2024, SM Entertainment announced that Xiumin, Baekhyun, and Chen would carry out their solo projects and EXO-CBX activities under Baekhyun's newly established label, "I&B 100". Despite these changes, all three members will remain part of EXO.
