Did you fall in your dreams? There might be a hidden meaning to it!

Have you ever experienced a strange dream where you see yourself falling into nowhere? Did it startle you into waking up from deep sleep?

As bizarre as it sounds, a lot of people experience vivid dreams when sleeping. Dreams about falling are, strangely, one of the most common ones.

However, what's rather surprising is that the meanings, or what your dreams signify may not be that common.

As per psychologists and sleep experts, falling dreams can mean different things, depending on factors such as a dreamer's psyche, background and other association. We decode a few of the meanings.

What does falling in your dreams signify?

Broadly speaking, falling dreams are more to do with your psyche than simply falling down in a ditch.

It can be a simple way of your mind and subconscious trying to alert you about something troublesome.

Dreams about falling down can seldom represent or mimic a situation in your life where you might be losing control or balance. It could be something to do with your personal life, relationship, work, home or college.

Experts say that much like other dream symbols, falling dreams can help a dreamer understand a trigger that might need your attention, or point out your vulnerability.

The meaning can depend on how you 'fell' in your dreams

Mapping out the relevance of your dreams can help you deal better with your fears, vulnerabilities and insecurities. That being said, dreams about falling can vary from person to person and can have a different interpretation.

What a falling dream is trying to symbolize can also depend on the way you fell in your dreams. Did you fall and lose balance? Got pushed by someone? Or did you see someone falling down? All can have different symbolism attached to them!

Were you pushed in your dream?

Being pushed in a dream and falling down could be a repressed dream signifying something personal.

For one, it could mean that you might be pushing yourself too hard-especially if you have been extra stressed about something (for example, long working hours, bad relationships, unnerving situations).

On the other hand, if things seem to be going stable for you, and you experience a dream about being pushed, it could signify that you may need to be wary of those around you, or steer clear of over-trusting people.

Are you trying to hold on to something?

If you see yourself falling in your dreams, but hold on to something which prevents it, it epitomizes that you are trying to mend, or fix something in your life which may be out of your control.

If you have been going through a stage of turmoil- broken relationships, families torn apart, separation and trying to patch things up, it can be common to experience this dream.

If you fall down from a cliff

If there's a cliff in your dream, or you fall down standing near an edge, it can be interpreted as a signal to slow things down in life and not be rash or extreme.

Dreams can also symbolize different things depending on the way you land. For example, experts believe if you land on your feet, onto the ground, it might indicate a correction or overcoming an obstacle you might be undergoing successfully. On the contrary, dreaming of falling down to the bottom, in the deep end may signify something negative- maybe impending trouble, failure or simply reaching the bottom end of a situation you might be going through.

If you fall down and lose your balance

For many people, this is the most common cause of falling down (atleast in their dreams). Losing balance, and consequently falling down could mean there may be an incongruence, non-compatibility or misbalance in your life which you are struggling to correct.

There could be multiple reasons for this imbalance to occur- going through a financial crisis, bad work-life balance, struggling to settle, hanging onto something from the past. All of these factors can weigh down heavily in your mind and affect you subconsciously, making you prone to having dreams about falling.

If you slip and fall out of the blue, it can be taken as a sign of emotional trouble, a slippery, risky situation you might be navigating in your personal life.

What if you dream about someone else falling?

For most dreamers, falling dreams bring attention to their own shortcomings and vulnerabilities.

However, for some, it can also happen to point fingers at someone else's (probably someone close to them) failure, fears of being let down. If you do see someone else falling down in your dream, it probably means a sort of resentment, or a bottled up feeling that you are being let down by someone close to you.

It could also mean that the dreamer himself or herself is trying to do something well for the other person, but falls short of doing so.

Falling dreams are common and can be a chronic recurrence for people. It can also quickly turn unpleasant and wake a person up from deep slumber.

While one simply cannot ignore such triggers or the situations which might be causing you to see these dreams, experts say that the number one thing to do is to analyze and work on the stressors in your waking state and regain a sense of balance.

If you do see these dreams often, try and maintain a sleep journal if possible. Penning down the sequence of your dreams, or the parts of what you remember can help connect the dots and get you closer to your subconscious thoughts.

Analyze and reassess areas of your life that might be causing you stress- be it work, relationships or homefront. With self-awareness and insight, you will be able to better deal with your nightmarish dreams and grab control of your life.
