| Locations: Yellow players can catch Farfetch'd on Route 12 and 13, but Blue/Red owners are actually off a little better. Just bring a Spearow to Vermilion City and trade it with the trainer in the center house. | |||||||||||

| Tips: Okay, this one's a bit weird... But don't worry -- we've got an explanation for everything (read about Farfetch'd's origin at the bottom of this page). Farfetch'd's got good HP and fairly balanced overall stats, but unlike many other Flying Pokemon it can't evolve. If at least it had a bunch of powerful Flying attacks at its disposal -- but nope. Only the low-level Peck and the ability to learn HM 02's Fly (which is admittedly very powerful, but it's of course a two-part move). Most of Farfetch'd's moves are status-altering moves that increase its Defense or Speed. But let's face it. By the time this Pokemon has used those techniques, your opponent has probably already zapped you right out of the sky. The gist of the story is this: stick with other Flying types if you want to raise a powerful Flying Pokemon. Farfetch'd is a fine choice at low levels (mostly because you can get a traded one in Blue/Red that gains experience points rather quickly), but it just doesn't have the staying power or stats to be competitive at high levels. Farfetch'd is a good choice against Grass, Fighting or Bug opponents and it can even hold its own against Ground types as well. Ground attacks (like Dig) can't hit Flying Pokemon, but beware of Ground/Rock types. Rock Slide and Rock Throw, the only two Rock techniques in the game, are very effective against Flying Pokemon like Farfetch'd. But the quickest way to take down a Flying Pokemon is of course to use an Electric Pokemon or a Normal type with Electric attacks. There is virtually no way an equal-level Flying type emerges victorious from a lightning battle. | |||||||||||

| Origin: Farfetch'd obviously gets its name from the word "farfetched" -- but there's actually more to this crazy bird's origin than initially meets the eye. Well, the leek Farfetch'd is holding (and which it probably fetched from afar) is actually a "negi", a Japanese spring onion. Duck in Japanese is "kamo". So what's Fafetch'd's Japanese name? Why, Kamonegi, of course. But there's more. The whole "Kamonegi duck holding a spring onion" spiel is really a joke. There is actually a Japanese noodle dish called Kamonegi (ask for it in any good Udon or Ramen restaurant) -- which contains, you guessed it, duck and spring onions. | |||||||||||
