What Is Needed for Farming?

A Fairly Flat Land

Before even planting saplings and seeds on your very own farm, we recommend preparing the land first. For ease of planting, you would want to start your farm on flat land. These can be done by using the Hoe to level the ground!

The Cultivator

Planting seeds and items generally start with the Cultivator. This tool allows you to prepare the land for cultivation and plant seeds/saplings. It can also be used to regrow grass! You will need to equip it and choose the seed of your choosing when planting.

Seeds and Saplings

You need to acquire seeds and saplings of that certain plant to unlock them in the cultivator. There are various plants to cultivate in Valheim from Carrots and Turnips to Pines and Birch trees!

How to Plant Seeds to Grow Vegetables and Trees

Tree Saplings Can Be Scattered Anywhere

Planting trees are fairly easy in this game. Put saplings in your pocket and equip the Cultivator. Right-click anywhere to pull out the Cultivate menu and click any sapling type you choose. Afterward, point your cursor anywhere and plant your sapling! Saplings grow fast so this is a reliable way to farm Wood!

Vegetables Need Cultivated Land

To plant vegetables, you will need to cultivate the land using the Cultivator. Cultivated land appears dark and wet - ready for planting.

For starters, you have to put seeds or vegetables in your pocket and equip the Cultivator. Right-click anywhere to pull out Cultivate menu and click any vegetables you choose. Afterward, point your cursor on any cultivated land and plant your seeds!

Plant Vegetables to Get Seeds, Plant Seeds to Get Vegetables

Valheim has a unique way for you to efficiently rotate vegetables and seeds:

• When you plant seeds, you get the vegetable eg. plant carrot seeds to grow carrots.
• When you plant vegetables, you get the seed eg. plant carrot to get carrot seeds). The seeds given are also very generous, with around 2-3 seeds per vegetable!

Plants Need to Be Spaced Properly

Both plants are healthy and will grow at the same time.	One plant will not grow properly which is time and space inefficient.

Like real-life plants, the plants in Valheim need to be spaced properly. When planted close to each other, one of them will not grow properly. Do not worry though, plants here do not wilt so they will grow when space opens up!
