Final Fantasy 14 offers a wide-open world for you to explore and it can get pretty tiresome traipsing around on foot. Fortunately, at level 20 you get your very own Chocobo mount to speed things up, and with the addition of the Heavensward expansion, flying mounts were also added to the game so you can get around even more efficiently.

All mounts have the same base speed apart from the SDS Fenrir that can only be purchased with real money from the Optional Items Store. However, you can make your mounts run even faster with the help of Riding Maps.
Increased mount speed does not affect flying mount speed.

How To Check Your Current Mount Speed
You can check your current mount speed in any area with the "/mountspeed" command or via the 'Travel' menu at the bottom of the screen and selecting 'Mount Speed'.
A Realm Reborn areas have two stars; the first star is unlocked upon the completion of specific main scenario quests covering A Realm Reborn through to Stormblood content, and the second star for each area is obtained by purchasing the relevant Riding Map.
Expansion areas have one star each, some of which are obtained by completing quests, while others are unlocked by purchasing the relevant Riding Map.
Where To Get A Realm Reborn Area Riding Maps
Riding Maps for A Realm Reborn areas can be purchased with Allied Seals from the Hunt Billmaster of your chosen Grand Company.
They can be found under 'Allied Seals (Other)' and are 250 Allied Seals each.
Allied Seals are earned by defeating Hunt Marks that are posted on company Hunt Boards. Regular marks change daily, while elite marks change weekly.

Where To Get Heavensward Area Riding Maps
Riding Maps for Heavensward areas can be purchased with Centurio Seals from Estrid the Clan Centurio Member in Ishgard at (X:13.0, Y:11.8).
They can be found under 'Exchange Centurio Seals' and are 250 Centurio Seals each.
Centurio Seals are earned by defeating Hunt Marks that are posted on Clan Hunt Boards. Regular marks change daily, while elite marks change weekly.

Each map costs 250 Centurio Seals.
Centurio Seals are earned by defeating Hunt Marks that are posted on Clan Hunt Boards. Regular marks change daily, while elite marks change weekly.

Where To Get Shadowbringers Area Riding Maps
From Shadowbringers onward, how you obtain Riding Maps has changed — you now need to earn Gemstones to purchase Riding Maps from Gemstone Traders.
Gemstones are earned from completing FATEs in the Shadowbringers and Endwalker areas. To unlock the Riding Map from the Gemstone Trader of each area, you must first complete six different FATEs in that specific area to reach Rank Two.
Maps will not be available from each vendor until you do this.
You can view your progress by going to the 'Shared Fate' option from the 'Travel' menu. There, you can see how many FATEs you have completed in each region and which Rank you are everywhere.
