Final Fantasy XIV: How To Change The Color Of Your Chocobo Mount

While the default yellow shade of Chocobo Mounts in Final Fantasy XIV is far from being visually unappealing, players looking to add more variety in their Mount's appearance can alter their Chocobo's color. There are over 80 colors to choose from when changing the color of a Chocobo in Final Fantasy XIV, giving players a vast number of ways to personally customize the way their feathered friend looks, in addition to its unique Barding.
First, to have a Chocobo Mount, players must complete the Level 20 MSQ, "The Company You Keep," which has players choose between joining The Maelstrom from Limsa Lominsa, The Immortal Flames from Ul'dah, or The Order of the Twin Adder from Gridania. After receiving their first Mount from the "My Little Chocobo" quest, players must reach Level 30 to complete the Gridanian sidequest "My Feisty Little Chocobo," granting their Choboco its Companion abilities. Finishing these two quests is mandatory for changing the color of a Choboco in Final Fantasy XIV.

To unlock the ability to alter a Chocobo's color, players must first buy a house in Final Fantasy XIV. Purchasing a player home is one of the most arduous accomplishments in the game, especially in a packed server. Players can only buy a house after reaching Level 50 and becoming a Second Lieutenant in their Grand Company. They must also complete the housing-related quest for the region in which they wish to purchase a home. Keep in mind that houses are not cheap in Final Fantasy XIV and require hundreds of thousands to millions of Gil. After successfully buying a house, players must purchase a Chocobo Stable, an Outdoor Furnishing costing 125,000 Gil. Alternatively, players could also buy an Apartment that often has many more available slots and comes at a base price of 500,000 Gil. Apartments in FFXIV have built-in Chocobo Stables that are shared by its community.
How to Change the Color of the Chocobo Mount in FFXIV
After accomplishing the strenuous task of finding and buying a home, FFXIV players can change their Chocobo's color by feeding them Snacks while stabled. The type of Snacks and the order in which they are given will dictate the color of the Chocobo. The color-changing process takes six real-time hours, and during this time, players will not be able to summon their Companion.
Figuring out what kind of Snacks will give the Chocobo color a player wants can be a headache in itself. Fortunately, FFXIV Chocobo Colour Calculator is a free online tool that players can use to determine the type of Snacks and feeding order they must perform for a specific color. Snacks for the Chocobo can be either grown at a player home's garden or be purchased on the Market Board.
