Final Fantasy XIV: How To Exchange Tomestone & Scrip Money

When Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker releases, many older Tomestone and Scrip currencies will instantly vanish. This includes some of the most used money from Heavensward to Shadowbringers. Smart players that exchange their currency at the right time may find increased value or better deals. This can mean both holding out for certain Scrips, while also unloading Tomestones quickly.

Tomestones and Scrips are used to purchase the best gear at each expansion’s level cap. When a Final Fantasy XIV expansion sunsets, its equipment enters a more universal pool that can be purchased with a single type of money. For combat roles, that is always Poetic Tomestones. Crafters and gathers are a bit more unique, taking on the newest Scrip introduced to previous content.

Players should note that the money exchange is a two-part process that cannot be completed at the same time. For currencies that are no longer in circulation at all (Phantasmagoria Tomestones, Red Scrips) players must make the trade before Endwalker enters into early access on November 19th. If a currency is only losing value but still physically in Final Fantasy XIV, the exchange will open up after Endwalker is live. This opportunity will last until the release of patch 6.1.  There is no official rollout date, but historically they have come out four months after an expansion’s launch.

Old Tomestones in Final Fantasy XIV

Eulmore accepts Poetics post Endwalker in Final Fantasy 14

The entire suite of Shadowbringers Tomestone money is being phased out. Players will only be able to use the much older Poetic Tomestones from Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn, and a new yet unnamed currency for Endwalker. However, prices for level 80 gear like Crystarium and Cryptlurker will be adjusted to a new value.

Phantasmagoria

Phantasmagoria was previously the premier Tomestone of Shadowbringers, but was slowly devalued over time. The money was not forcibly removed from the player's inventory, and remained for anyone who decided to keep it. Now, players must head to Auriana in Revenant’s Toll (x: 22.7, Y: 6.7) and she will convert every four Phantasmagoria into one Allegory. Any extra that is not divisible by four will be forfeited and deleted from the player’s accounts. Her conversion offer will end the moment patch 6.0 releases.

Allegory

Tomestones of Allegory can be used to purchase item level 490 Crystarium equipment. Once Endwalker is released, Auriana will switch her business to exchange every four Allegory into one Poetic each - and will still discard any remainder that is not a multiple of four. Because Crystarium armor and weapons are no longer the strongest gear in Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers, players will want to hold onto the maximum amount of 2,000 Allegory without spending more.

Life in Revenant’s Toll of Final Fantasy 14

Revelation

Revelation Tomestones allow the purchase of item level 520 Cryptlurker gear at Eulmore city, the current strongest in all of Final Fantasy XIV. Just like Allegory, Auriana will exchange every four Revelation into one Poetic and trash the rest. On the same date, all Cryptlurker items will be purchasable with Poetic Tomestones. However, historically the value conversion during past expansions has never been 100% equal. This means that inattentive players may wind up paying double or more the value by using Poetics during Endwalker.

Because of this, it is highly advised that players make all necessary Cryptlurker purchases for their main job with Revelations. One can also supplement with similar item-level Blades armor in the Final Fantasy XIV Dalriada Raid. Only after being fully geared and ready for Endwalker should one focus on getting up to the maximum 2,000 Revelation cap. But, a major caveat is that only 900 Revelations can be earned each week, making it a close call if one waits to collect right before Endwalker’s launch.

Past Crafting and Gathering Scrips in Final Fantasy XIV

Scrips used for both Disciples of the Hand and Disciples of the Land will become defunct during Endwalker. However, unlike Tomestones the removal has been much slower and lenient, resulting in old forms of money from FFXIV Heavensward and Stromblood still being in circulation. A further consequence is that Shadowbringers premier currency, White Scrips, will still be in full use.

Red Scrips

Both the crafter and gatherer versions of Red Scrips became useless when Shadowbringers was released. But, players could still leave them in their inventory unspent if they wished. Just like Phantasmagoria, players only have until November 19 to exchange these into Yellow Scrips at a 4:1 rate. This can be done by speaking to the Scrip Exchanger in Revenant’s Toll (x: 22.6, y: 6.6).

Yellow Scrips

Yellow Scrips were once the most prestigious Scrips of Stormblood, but became extremely commonplace for Shadowbringers. Yellow Scrips can be easily collected in Final Fantasy XIV side activities like Custom Deliveries. When Endwalker releases, the Scrip Exchanger will turn every four Yellow Scrips into one White Scrip. Additionally, all older Yellow Scrip items will still remain as purchasable with White Scrips. Just like Revelation, the value of items may not be exact, so one may want to make major purchases now for cheaper deals. However, Yellow Scrips have no 900 a week limit so gathering up 4,000 (2,000 for Disciple of Hand and another 2,000 for Disciple of the Land) will be much easier than Tomestones.

While all Yellow Scrip items will be converted over, much older prizes gained with the special Blue and Red Tokens will become inaccessible. Tokens are a form of promissory note players can buy with Scrips in order to redeem rare expensive items beyond the 2,000 Scrip limit. Additionally, some Yellow Token rewards like Goblin Cups, Goblin Dice, and items that may also be gained via synthesis will be removed. Square Enix highly advises making these purchases before Endwalker comes out, or the previously spent money may become useless.

White Scrip Standard

Instead of going away, the top Scrip will shift into the everyday currency for crafters and gathers. This will include earning White Scrips from turning in Final Fantasy XIV Collectables to the House of Splendors. This actually results in having the complete opposite purchasing strategy compared to Revelations. One will want to horde as many White Scrips as possible, and then spend all of them after the release of Endwalker. That way gearing level 80 jobs may be faster and easier.

Regardless of whether one takes the time to maximize profits, both Poetic Tomestones and White Scrips will be bountiful once Endwalker releases. It will be possible to get top-level armor for all jobs, but will just take much more of a time sink for those that wait. Those that geared up to level 80 early will be one step closer to seeing the compelling level 90 content in FFXIV Endwalker.
