Finn is short for Finnegan. We wanted an Irish name, 3 syllable full name with 1 syllable nickname (family trend)

Our sons name is Finnick Warren but Finnick wasn’t an option to pick from. We have a daughter who is 10.5 and we’ve tried for 8 years and didn’t think I could get pregnant, so we thought we would never have him! We tried coming up with boy names for years so we would be prepared in case it ever did happen and could never find anything we liked. We found out I was pregnant and we loved the name Finn but wanted something longer and wanted to use Finn for a nickname. Not long after our gender reveal my mom called me (on her birthday) and suggested Finnick! We loved it and my husband’s name is Nick so we loved that I had his name in it too! We also all love the hunger game movies and Finnick Odair was one of my favorite characters! It fits him perfectly and I’m so glad my mom suggested it!

We chose the name Finn because we liked it. We knew we wanted to use the family name of Theodore as our son’s middle name so we wanted something short, unique but not unheard of and strong and for us Finn fit the bill. There is nothing I dislike about his name. I feel like it fits him well.

We loved the simplicity of the name and the fact that it is Scandinavian. My husband is American with Scandinavian descent and wanted our kids to have a unique name like his. We both did not want to have a top 100 name, even though Finn is becoming very popular now!

I loved the sound/meaning of this name from the start. After I told it to my mom, I saw a boy at the doctors office named Finn. Then I told my sister this at the beach later that week, and we got talking to a boy and his grandma, the boy’s name is Finn. I told this story to one of my coworkers, her brothers name is Finn and lastly, I told all this to a friend, and that night, watched a random YouTube video about two little brothers, the younger brothers’ name was Finn! In short, it was meant to be!

The name Finn is for sure a Danish/Swedish/Norwegian and finnish name. Many people claim than Finn is an Irish name, but Its very possible that it was born in Ireland too independently. Why not it consist of only 3 letters, so I dont like that somebody take Finn out of a scandinavian origin. The name by the way occurs also in Iceland and the Faroe Islands in many variations. Finn de Blanck . Denmark

Guess you’ve never heard the song “Finn MacCool” sung by the Dropkick Murphy’s about the Irish **legend**… look it up, its’ very much an Irish name, too.

There was a strong viking presence in Ireland throughout history so it may be that it was brought over, however, yes Fionn/Finn is most certainly an Irish name and Finn McCool is a hero of Irish mythology.
