- If it shows an iOS 26 or later version, it might be a serious issue, and you need to fix it as soon as possible.

Is the Widgetsmith App downloaded on your iPhone? If yes, did you add a Widget on the iPhone home screen following the correct steps?
- Touch and hold on to the blank space of the iPhone home screen.
- Tap on the Plus button on the top-left screen.
- Scroll the screen to find and tap on Widgetsmith.

- You can see Small, medium, and large sizes style) please choose one of them. Tap Add Widget.

- Lastly, tap Done on the upper-right screen. So you can see the WidgetSmith widget on your home screen.

Still, if you can’t find the Widgetsmith App in the list of Widgets, it might be due to the iOS bug that needs you to open the app first, and then the iPhone will add it under the list of Widgets. So first, launch the Widgetsmith App and close it. Then, again, follow the above steps to add the Widgetsmith on the iPhone home screen.

Solution #3. Widgetsmith Grey Screen Widgets
Unlike Native Widgets added by Apple in recent iOS, Widgetsmith is not available as ‘ready to use’; for once, it needs to be customized using the app’s inbuilt elements. If you haven’t configured the Widgetsmith Widget and directly added it to the home screen, it will indeed appear grey and blank.
At first, remove the greyed Widgetsmith widget from the home screen; to do so, tap and hold the Widget and select Remove Widget.
- Open the Widgetsmith app on your iPhone.
- Tap Widgets appear in the lower-left side corner.
- Choose the Widget size.

- Next, select the type of widget you want to add, including photos, time, date, calendar, reminders, or customs. For instance, if you choose photos,
- please select Allow All photos. Otherwise, widgetsmith will be unable to show your pictures.
- After customizing the Widget, rename it and tap ‘Small #1’, ‘ Medium #1’, or ’Large #1’.Lastly, save the widget.

- Check the widgetsmith on the Home screen. (If it appears grey and blank, proceed to step 8.)
- Long-press the WidgetSmith widget.
- Select Edit Widget on the pop-up screen.

- Next, select the appropriate widget size.
- Discover what WidgetSmith displays on your home screen.

- For example, when you choose photos.
- Tap Photos
- Tap either Choose from Photos or choose from files
- Tap albums
- Choose one of the albums that you want to show on Widgetsmith.
- Now select a picture and tap on Save.
Note: Refer to solution 6 to create a new album in the Photos App.
Solution #4. Manage Permissions for Widgetsmith
Apple’s privacy policies can sometimes be frustrating, yet they allow us to add personal information on our iPhones confidently. Like other apps, Widgetsmith requires full permission to access and utilize the data and applications on your iPhone. Without these permissions, you might encounter a black or gray widget on your device.
- Launch the Widgetsmith App.
- Tap on the Settings tab located at the lower part of the screen.
- Tap App Privacy Permissions.
- Give the permissions by selecting the Manage option under all the apps.
- It Must appear as Status: Granted, not Denied.
- For instance, Tap on Manage under the photos app section.
- Your screen will jump on the settings app, tap Photos.
- Tap either Full Access or Limited Access to show your iPhone library in the widgetsmith space on the home screen.
Solution #5. Widgetsmith Activity Widget Showing No Data
To use the Activity Widget or Health App, you must obtain special permission from the Widgetsmith app. Open Settings and grant the necessary permissions once for good. If you encounter a Status: Requested message in the Health App, follow these steps to resolve the issue.
- Go to the Widgetsmith App.
- Tap on the Settings tab.

- Tap App Privacy Permissions.
- Scroll the screen to tap on Manage under the Health Section.

- In the Summary line, tap the Profile icon.
- Under Privacy, Tap Apps and Services.

- Tap Widgetsmith.
- Tap on Turn On All the listed data, including Active Energy, Activity, Exercise Minutes, Steps, Stand Hours, Walking + Running Distance, and Workouts.

After all, this troubleshooting, if you still see the Status: Requested, go to the App Store, and update the Widgetsmith App. It seems like a problem from the developer side, which we can’t fix.
