Introduction

Flavor Flav is an American professional rapper, actor, comedian, and television personality with an estimated net worth of $2 Million.

Public Enemy

Flavor Flav rose to prominence as a member of the group Public Enemy in 1985, which was signed to Def Jam Records a year later. The group’s first album, Yo! Bum Rush the Show was released in 1987 and became one of the fastest-selling hip-hop records in history. Their follow-up album, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, went double platinum and helped Public Enemy become mainstream superstars.

With his signature large clock necklace, Flavor was known for getting fans excited. He rapped his first solo in “Life of a Nigerian.” Now one of the wealthiest rappers in the world, Flavor Flav has become one of the most recognizable hip-hop icons.

While Public Enemy has included many rappers, Chuck D and Flavor Flav have been the only constant members. Entering the 2000s, the group remained one of the most prominent hip-hop groups, releasing 15 studio albums since 1987.

Their most recent release was What You Gonna Do When the Grid Goes Down in 2020, which featured Ice-T and Ad-Rock, along with other prominent rappers.

Public Enemy performed at a rally for presidential candidate Bernie Sanders that same year and released the anti-Donald Trump song “State of the Union (STFU).”

In 2023, Public Enemy was sued by Ivano Fossati, Oscar Prudente, and Universal Music Group for plagiarism. This was in response to the group not citing Fossati and Prudente as co-authors of the song “Harder Than You Think.”

Television Career

Along with his accomplished music career, Flavor Flav has appeared on TV numerous times. In 2004, he appeared on the third season of The Surreal Life, a VH1 reality show, and developed a relationship with his co-star, Brigitte Nielsen. The pair were then given their show, Strange Love, documenting their travels worldwide and budding romance. However, the show ended with Nielsen deciding to return to her fiancé, and Flavor signed on to Flavor of Love.

Flavor Flav went looking for love in that show, which spawned the spin-off series I Love New York and I Love Money. He has also appeared on many Comedy Central Roasts, including those of Snoop Dog, Ice-T, Katt Williams, and Brigitte Neilsen.

The Restaurant Business

In 2011, Flavor Flav opened Flav’s Fried Chicken in his hometown of Clinton, Iowa. However, after opening in January, the restaurant was quickly closed in April after only a few months of operation. The closure resulted from disagreements with Flav’s partner, Nick Cimino, bad business decisions, and too many bounced checks. Flavor ultimately decided to close the business rather than try to make things work with Cimino at the helm.

His next restaurant, Flavor Flav’s House of Flavor, was opened in 2012, and he partnered with Gino Harmon to start the Flavor Flav’s Chicken & Ribs franchise. Unfortunately, this restaurant closed after the business was evicted from its location for failing to pay rent.
