Flute

The Flute is an item from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past found in the Haunted Grove. The flute is an ocarina type.

The forest clearing in the Light World to the southeast of Kakariko Village is home to a character colloquially called Flute Boy, who plays to a his friends, the animals, and vanishes when Link approaches. The mystery cannot be solved in the Light World. Travel to the Dark World and access the area by pounding down the pegs on the bridge connecting the area accessible from the Pyramid, then head west to the Haunted Grove.

In the Dark World in the comparable clearing, the transformed Flute Player will give you his Shovel, asking you to find his Flute.

Once you dig up the Flute in the northwest corner of the clearing in the Light World, the Shovel will be removed from your inventory in the SNES original. In the Game Boy Advance version, he'll let you keep it.

The transformed Flute Boy will tell you that he cannot play the Flute anymore in his current form and offers it to Link. He asks you to give the Flute to the tired old man in Kakariko Village. Play the flute for him one last time, and the Flute Boy transforms into a tree.

To close out the quest, head to Kakariko Village and enter the tavern. Talk to the Flute Boy's Father and he will recognize the flute and see in Link's eyes that his son is no more. He asks Link to keep the Flute and use it on the Weathercock in Kakariko Village.

  • Use: The Flute is used to transform the Weathercock in Kakariko Village into the Flying Duck. Once he has awakened the Flying Duck, Link can use the flute (In the Light World) to call the Flying Duck and fast travel to many locations around Hyrule.
