Use cookie cutters to create simple yet striking toppers for cupcakes. These toppers celebrate the new Tablespoon.com website design.

Fondant Cupcake Toppers

Step 1 Knead the fondant until it is pliable. Dust a cutting board and a rolling pin with corn starch. Roll the fondant out to about 1/16 of an inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. For the Tablespoon badges, I used alphabet cutters to create phrases like, LOL and NOM U and I used a round cutter to create a disco ball, and a knife to cut out a martini glass and an arrow.
Step 2 Use a round cookie cutter that is similar in size to the top of your cupcakes to cut out fondant buttons. For a rainbow effect. roll various colors of fondant into logs then stick them together using water and flatten using a rolling pin. Brush a light coating of water on the backside of your cut outs and press them onto the fondant buttons.
Step 3 Frost the top of your cupcakes and press one of the cupcake toppers onto the frosting.
Step 4 If you are not going to serve your cupcakes the same day, it is best to store just the fondant cupcake toppers in an airtight container until the day you need them. Then place them on the cupcakes up to several hours before serving.
