Former NBA Star JR Smith Goes Back To College At 36, Gets Straight ...

Greensboro, N.C. — Former NBA star now-turned professional golfer just received another accolade to add to his long list of accomplishments.

J.R. Smith, a two-time NBA champion, enrolled at North Carolina A&T State University last year and joined the golf team.

Smith, who is now 36 years old, was named NC A&T's Academic Athlete of the year for maintaining a 4.0 GPA this year.

"If I'm being honest at all, I was [terrified] to go back to school," Smith wrote on Twitter. "Literally, these assignments still make my heads sweat. Overcoming these fears of being vulnerable and open about my disability has given me real power, power no one will ever take from me!"

In a video reposted on Twitter by Complex Sports, Smith said he suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder.

Smith, whose full name is Earl Joseph Smith, won two NBA Championships — one with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and another with Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

"I'm just trying to educate myself, do something after basketball," Smith told WFMY in August 2021. "They always told me that I could go back whenever, when I was coming out of high school. This is whenever."
