NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Former National Football League quarterback Jay Cutler has indicated a potential run for a local school board seat in Tennessee.

The former longtime Chicago Bears quarterback and Vanderbilt University grad first hinted of running for a seat on the board for Williamson County Schools following the board's decision to mandate masks for elementary students and faculty.

The first indication of a potential run came last week after the board was confronted by protesters and parents during a special meeting held to discuss a possible mask mandate. Following passage of the mandate, things became heated after the meeting, protesters targeting board members and others leaving the facility while repeating "we know who you are."

Williamson County Schools (WCS) issued a statement after the meeting stating there was "no excuse for incivility." The local sheriff's office also opened an investigation into what took place although the office declined to provide further details.

Cutler, who had just rejoined Twitter Aug. 9 — one day before the meeting, took to Twitter right after the school board's vote asking "How do you run for school board? I need this info." A few days later, Cutler tweeted a photo of school board members with the caption "doing school board research. Looks like a 2024 campaign for me." That same day, Cutler stated he needed 100 signatures and a petition from the county to run in 2024, adding he would "start getting John Hancocks today."

His stance apparently caught the eye of NFL partner Uber eats who Cutler says "lost a commercial" with the company because "views aren't aligned," adding "Guess they don't like future School board members."
