I miss you soSeems like it's been forever that you've been gone[Verse 1: Mike Shinoda]She said, "Some days, I feel like shitSome days, I wanna quit and just be normal for a bit"I don't understand why you have to always be goneI get along, but the trips always feel so longAnd I find myself tryin' to stay by the phone'Cause your voice always helps me to not feel so aloneBut I feel like an idiot working my day around a callBut when I pick up, I don't have much to say[Pre-Chorus: Mike Shinoda]So I want you to know it's a little fucked upThat I'm stuck here waiting, at times debatingTelling you that I've had it with you and your careerMe and the rest of the family here singing, "Where'd you go?"[Chorus: Holly Brook & Jonah Matranga]Where'd you go? I miss you soSeems like it's been forever that you've been goneWhere'd you go? I miss you soSeems like it's been forever that you've been gonePlease come back homeYou might also like[Verse 2: Mike Shinoda]Come back home, you know, the place where you used to liveUsed to barbeque up burgers and ribsUsed to have a little party every Halloween with candy by the pileBut, now, you only stop by every once in a whileShit, I find myself just filling my timeWith anything to keep the thought of you from my mindI'm doing fine and I'm planning to keep it that wayAnd you can call me if you find that you have something to say[Pre-Chorus: Mike Shinoda]And I'll tell you I want you to know it's a little fucked upThat I'm stuck here waiting, at times debatingTelling you that I've had it with you and your careerMe and the rest of the family here singing, "Where'd you go?"[Chorus: Holly Brook & Jonah Matranga]Where'd you go? AboutSong Bio2 contributors

On the DVD of the special edition of The Rising Tied, Mike says a thing or two about the song. He says that there’s a lot of songs from the point of view of those who go on tour, missing their loved ones back home, but not many from the position of those left behind, who feel frustrated and underappreciated, like they’re second best after the person’s career. This song is from the point of view of those left behind.

In an interview with antiMusic, Mike Shinoda talked about each track on The Rising Tied album. For “Where’d You Go”, he notes:

A lot of people do songs about being on the road or on tour. I wanted to do a song from the opposite side, the other perspective. It was weird, I just came into the studio and sat down and played it. The words were there in a matter of probably two minutes. A few weeks later I decided I wanted Holly to sing it instead of me because I thought her voice would make the track so much more powerful. “Where’d You Go” makes my wife cry every time she hears it.
