Forum: Where Can I Buy Ackee Fruit Tree In Australia?
Maybe your like
Aaron Paterson starts with ... Hello I would like to know where in Australia I can buy an ACKEE fruit tree which Jamaican people make food from the fruit. Is there a Nursery in Australia who sells ACKEE FRUIT TREES, also PLANTAIN TREE & BREADFRUIT TREES. Is there a place where I can buy fresh fruit from these trees/plants? I live in Rockhampton, Central Queensland. Thanks for any help given. BJ says... Try this forum ... there was a few people in QLD that had the tree ... https://www.daleysfruit.com.au/forum/ackee-tree/ Apparently Limberlost Nurseries 113 Old Smithfield Road Freshwater, Cairns. 07 4055 1262 sells them too (so says that last forum). You may be able to import seeds (make sure you use the botanical name) but this is going to take time and money - but if you look at the previous post (which I tried to attatch above) there are some people in QLD with the tree - they may be able to provide seeds / suckers / information as to sources. There are also people that sell Jamaican cusine. Good luckTime: 16th March 2010 5:02pmReply | LIKE this Answer(0) | LIKE this Question (0) | Report

BJ says... Bluggoe bananas are Plantain. You can buy them from Banana nurseries. You'll have to get a DPI permit to grow one in Rocky though. Supposed to be easy to get though. The Backyard Blue Banana website has a bit of info on there. I'm looking into it now also.Time: 18th March 2010 2:20pmReply | LIKE this Answer(0) | LIKE this Question (0) | Report

Mike says... They used to be around in the past but seemed to have lost favour.I'll have to drive past the park in Moody Street to see if the fabulous akee tree I used to raid is still there.Plantains are fairly standard I thought and there is a large variety of breadfruit and breadnut that tropical fruit growers cultivate around mossman and on the cassowary coast.Limberlost may be the only nursery around with them but exotic groves or mena creek probably would.Time: 5th July 2011 9:34pmReply | Edit | LIKE this Answer(0) | LIKE this Question (0) | Report About the Author Cairns#UserID: 0Posts: View All 's Edible Fruit Trees

DC says... For anyone in the Brisbane/NNSW area: I am considering doing a bulk order of ackee seedlings to make the transport cost (via greyhound bus) from Cairns more reasonable. I would ship to Brisbane to avoid the mandatory DPI spray (and associated costs) they have to do if sending out of Qld. DC says... Okay - not an overwhelming response (!) but if anyone in the Brisbane and surrounding areas is interested, we can get up to 12 delivered for $17 each plus a total of $85 postage (flat rate) from Cairns to Brisbane, regardless of quantity ordered. So, if we can get 10 orders together between us we can get them for $25 each, delivered. Not the cheapest of trees...but worth it! DC says... Hi Phil, Not sure how advanced they are, but the nursery says "140mm pot size plants" - I'm guessing about as advanced as your average $10 seedling. As to whether they'll do well in the area...I do have some doubts - they obviously won't like frost - but I'm so bloody keen to grow some that I'm game to give it a go. Position (and lots of love) will be the key of course, plus I'm playing with the idea of making a greenhouse-type-structure as Ackee isn't the only full tropical fruit I'd like to grow. You would possibly have more luck being that bit closer to the coast?Time: 14th November 2013 12:24pmReply | LIKE this Answer(0) | LIKE this Question (0) | Report About the Author DCKyogle#UserID: 8299Posts: 7View All DC's Edible Fruit Trees

It has taken a hammering from the early summer we have here in early spring - hot westerly sun and strong dry winds - but is bouncing back now we've had a little rain. One early mistake I made was to feed them like other fruit trees and lost a few as a consequence. All mine are still in gro-bags, hasn't affected growth or performance that I know of.
