Freddy Krueger's Best Kills - IGN

Today, we look at the crimes of one Frederick Charles Krueger, former resident of 1428 Elm Street, Springwood, Ohio, who is currently living… in your worst nightmares! Yes, we're reunion touring with Freddy's best MDKs, just in time for his new movie reboot arriving in theatres this weekend. Certainly this sweater-wearing maniac has wracked up some good ones over the years.

Freddy Vs. Johnny Movie: A Nightmare on Elm Street Victim: Johnny Depp Death by: Hole-sucking?

Killacious: We'd like to think that Johnny Depp (as Edward Scissorhands, perhaps?) could take Freddy in a rematch, but he was simply no match for the nightmarish villain in this early role in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Depp plays Glen Lantz, a high school student dating dream-tortured hottie Nancy (Heather Langenkamp).

Glen initially appears to be immune to the Freddy phenomenon, convinced that the dream experiences are just that, but one night he falls asleep watching TV in bed and Freddy gets the best of him. We're not exactly sure how he's killed, but Glen is abruptly awakened and sucked into a hole that opens in his mattress… along with his TV and stereo. Suddenly, a massive geyser of blood gushes out of the hole and fills the room. Fortunately, Depp would go on to bigger and better things.

It's Howdy Doody Time Movie: A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors Victim: Phillip, the soon-to-be marionette Death by: Puppeteering

Killacious: Dream Warriors takes place six years after the events of the first film. Freddy Krueger has returned to kill the last of kids descended from the gang of vigilantes that took his life years ago. One of the unlucky few, the first to get it in the film, is Phillip, a poor bastard who gets taken out in the most excruciating of ways.

Freddy rips the tendons from Phillip's arms and feet, allowing Freddy to control him like a marionette. As you can imagine, all of this is really freakin' gross. He walks Phillip up to the top of a tower, then cuts the tendons and Phillip falls to his death. You'll never be able to watch Thunderbirds again without thinking of this sequence.

The Boob Tube Movie: A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors Victim: Jennifer, self-mutilator Death by: TV-watching

Killacious: Jennifer is one messed up chick. One of the sole surviving Elm Street children (at least at this point in the series), she's been committed to a psychiatric hospital where she burns herself with cigarettes and, even worse, watches The Dick Cavett Show when the famed talk-show host has guests like Zsa Zsa Gabor on. Fortunately for Jennifer, Freddy soon arrives and offs her -- saving her from future guest appearances by the likes of Liberace or Jamie "Klinger from M*A*S*H" Farr.

Her death scene is memorable not just for her own demise -- which comes courtesy of a TV which turns into Freddy and then smashes Jennifer's head through its screen -- but also because of the moment leading up to the Freddy-TV going haywire, where the onscreen Cavett turns into Freddy too and tells Gabor he doesn't "give a f&$k" what she thinks just as he's about to slash her to bits. You're not the only one, Freddy!

I Know What It's Like to Be Dead, Man… Movie: A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors Victim: Taryn, mohawked biker chick Death by: Forced injected-heroin overdose

Killacious: Taryn is a recovering drug addict who, like the other Elm Street kids, has the power to become someone special in her dreams -- she becomes a switchblade-wielding biker chick with a mohawk. But that badass getup won't be enough to ensure her survival when Freddy Krueger comes calling.

She puts up a good fight, stabbing Freddy with said switchblade. But it's no use. "Why should we fight," he says. "We're old friends, you and I. Remember? … Let's get high!" Heroin needles suddenly form on the killer's fingertips and Freddy mercilessly drives them into Taryn's forearms, giving her a massive overdose.

Wanna Suck Face? Movie: A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master Victim: Sheila, the lover Death by: French kiss

Killacious: There are two things that every high school kid will inevitably do -- make out and be murdered by Freddy. Thankfully, in The Dream Master, the uber-geek Sheila gets to do both at exactly the same time. On the day of her big test, Sheila reports to class a bit drowsy from having studied late the night before, which only goes to prove that overachieving is likely to get you butchered in some hilariously kitschy way by a wise-cracking dream-demon.

Hence the razor-fingered villain peeling an apple at the teacher's desk, or the test that rearranges itself to say that "Learning is fun… with Freddy!" All of which happens right before Freddy offers to make out with the terrified teen and suck the life out of her body until she looks like a cheap, Sheila-shaped skin suit.

This Roach Is Smoked Movie: A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master Victim: Debbie, gym and roach-motel maven Death by: Insectoid transformation

Killacious: "No pain, no gain." That's Freddy's rote one-liner when he takes on Debbie, the physically fit gym nut who is pumping iron when the demon in the striped sweater shows up. It becomes a battle of wills as Freddy pushes down on the weights while Debbie pushes up, but of course Freddy's strength can't be matched and he causes his victim's arms to break at the elbows -- compound fractures no less.

Or so we think. But what kind of compound fracture leads to one's skin falling off their arms and giant cockroach-like appendages sprouting in their place? The Freddy kind, of course! As the girl continues to transform into a bug, Debbie realizes that she is suddenly trapped in a roach motel (complete with sticky stuff on the floor!) -- which Freddy promptly crushes while she's inside. Really, though, with an exoskeleton like that the poor thing was probably better off.

Overeating 'Till You're Stuffed Movie: A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child Victim: Greta, the walking Jenny Craig advertisement Death by: Eating

Killacious: Almost everybody knows that post-Thanksgiving feeling of having eaten so much that you have to lay down, or adjust one notch on your belt, or simply jump into a pair of sweat pants and fall blissfully into a food coma. Then again, some people don't. Some people -- with their delicate appetites and perfectly, well-kept bodies -- are a little too health-conscious for those of us willing to go back for seconds on a plate of turkey, potatoes, green beans, and stuffing.

These are the people who nibble and nosh and pretend like they're full after a bite of something that wouldn't fill up a squirrel. These are the kind of people you'd just like to force-feed, preferably chopped-off bits of themselves, served on your glove made of knives. Just shove piece after piece of meat into their small, precious faces until they're bloated and bursting and dripping and choking, all the while screaming, "Bon appetit, bitch!" Or maybe that's just an overreaction.

Genocide in Springwood Movie: Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare Victim: 7,000 innocent children Death by: Sleeping

Killacious: It's often argued among horror fans which cinematic serial killer has wracked up the most murders. Jason? Michael Myers? Leatherface? Not at all. In fact, the dubious distinction of the most kills must go to Freddy Krueger, specifically for the deaths of some 7,000 children that he caused offscreen in Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare.

Yes, the clawed one assured his place in the serial-killer hall of fame in this film when he successfully wiped out all of the teenagers and young people living in the town of Springwood, Ohio. By either killing them or inciting them to commit suicide in their sleep, Fred used his dream powers to do what whack-jobs like Jason and Michael could only, well, dream of.

What? I Can't Hear You! Movie: Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare Victim: Carlos, doomed deaf guy Death by: Blackboard, or exploding head

Killacious: We've never watched a Nightmare movie with the captions turned on, but one assumes that doing so would be fairly ironic during the death of Carlos, the hearing-impaired character who gets his fair share of aural torture. And the poor guy's death scene is long…

Called by Freddy into a painful memory of his mother; impaled through one ear and out the other by a giant Q-Tip; given a hearing-aid that turns into a giant, sound-amplifying crab-creature; terrorized by the too-loud sound of Freddy's knives against pipes; subjected to the bomb-like sound of pins dropping and water dripping; and, finally, losing his head (literally) to the screeching of Freddy's nails across a blackboard. One imagines that being deaf would likely be preferable to having your head explode from hearing too well. Or maybe Freddy was just trying to help.

Ceiling Dance Movie: Wes Craven's New Nightmare Victim: Julie, the babysitter Death by: Inviso-Freddy

Killacious: Freddy creator Wes Craven returned to the series for this standalone film, which actually exists outside of the continuity of the other Elm Street movies and is instead set in the "real world" in which we live. In this reality, Craven and actress Heather Langenkamp (star of the first film) find themselves haunted by Freddy, who is attempting to crossover from the film world into this one. It's an interesting concept and a great change from the increasingly cartoonish Elm Street sequels.

The film is much darker than its predecessors, and nothing illustrates this point better than the death of Julie the babysitter. The scene echoes one from the original Elm Street film, with the girl getting brutally slashed by an invisible Freddy while she's thrown about the room and onto the ceiling. With the babysitter pinned to the ceiling and dying, she reaches out to her young charge who is watching in terror below and begs him to help her, to no avail... while Freddy laughs maniacally.
