Ingredients

You have to love that simple ingredient list. Here are just a few notes to help you make the perfect mojito for those summer months.
Strawberries: Fresh strawberries are obviously standard, but you can also use frozen strawberries, which go into the freezer at their peak ripeness, so the flavor is still great. Just make sure they’re thawed first.
Rum: White rum, also known as light rum, is the classic choice for a mojito. Bacardi is available at any liquor store, but feel free to branch out to other distilleries. Don Q, Havana Club and Cruzan Rum all make white rums that are great for mojitos.
Simple syrup: Mojitos are traditionally made with white sugar, but if you don’t completely muddle the sugar, it can leave behind a grainy texture. Simple syrup ensures we get the perfect drink every time.
Lime wedges: Some mojito recipes call for fresh lime juice rather than muddling the lime. However, I’ve done a side-by-side mojito taste test with a juiced and a muddled mojito, and the muddled version won, hands down. Muddling also extracts the oils from the lime zest, which makes the flavor more concentrated and brighter, to give us the absolute best strawberry mojito.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Let's show you how simple it is to master this strawberry mojito recipe.
Step 1: Rather than a cocktail shaker, traditional mojitos are prepared right in the serving glass. So let’s grab a highball glass with a sturdy bottom and add the sweet strawberries, lime wedges and simple syrup and use a muddler to break down the fruit (photo 1).
Tip: If you don't have a cocktail muddler, you can use the back of a wooden spoon.

Step 2: Now we add the mint and lightly muddle a few times (photo 2). Mint doesn’t require much muddling, which is why I like to add it after our other ingredients sufficiently break down.

Step 3: For our next step, we add the silver rum with a handful of ice cubes and use a cocktail spoon to stir and chill the mixture (photo 3).

Step 4: Now we top the mojito with some bubbly club soda for that delightful finish (photo 4).

Step 5: As a final touch, we place a fresh mint sprig in the palm of our hands and quickly clap the other hand over it (photo 5). This releases that wonderful fragrance. Now we add the sprig of mint to the tall glass as a beautiful garnish along with some lime slices and strawberry slices if you'd like.

Just like that, we have the best strawberry mojito ready for patio sipping on a hot summer day. You will love this strawberry spin on a classic cocktail.

Recipe FAQs
How do you make a pitcher of strawberry mojitos?Just like the single serving, we muddle the strawberries, lime, simple syrup and mint, and then add the rum and pour in the club soda right before serving. I recommend skipping the ice in the pitcher and instead only add it to the serving glass. Otherwise, it will melt and dilute the drink. You can muddle everything right in the pitcher or a bowl if you have trouble reaching the bottom, and then pour the muddled contents into the pitcher. To customize the number of servings, simply multiply the ounces by the number of servings and divide by eight to get the cup measurement. For the mint, I scale by figuring one mint sprig per person, and multiply the strawberries per serving.
How do you make simple syrup? While you can buy simple syrup, I highly recommend making your own because it’s cheaper, and it only contains two ingredients. To prepare homemade simple syrup, bring 1 cup water and 1 cup white sugar to a boil, stirring every so often to dissolve the sugar.Once it cools, store the sugar syrup in a sterile, airtight container in the refrigerator. It should last for about a month. When it turns cloudy, it’s time to make a new batch.
Can you make this into a mocktail?Absolutely, mojitos can easily be turned into a mocktail. Simply leave out the rum and you have yourself the perfect strawberry mojito mocktail.

Variations
You can easily swap strawberries for another fruit, such as blackberries, raspberries or blueberries. You'll love the sweet flavor all sorts of fruits add to a classic mojito recipe for a fun twist. I’d use about ¼ cup of fruit.
While white rum is traditional for mojitos, some people love a dark rum mojito. You can substitute dark rum in equal parts. You can even swap other liquors, such as vodka or gin, if you're not a big rum fan.
Use a flavored simple syrup for an extra tasty boost. My fresh ginger simple syrup, for instance, would make a lovely strawberry-ginger mojito.
Add some fresh basil to the mix. Basil and mint pair beautifully together, and you’ll love that extra herbal touch it gives this strawberry mojito.
Expert Tips
Opt for strawberry purée or cocktail shaker if you don’t like fruit chunks: While muddled fruit is the more traditional way to make a mojito, you can either shake and strain the drink in a cocktail shaker or blend the strawberries into a purée. I love the fruit chunks and think it adds a nice freshness, but you do you.
Chill the club soda first: Room-temperature club soda will melt the ice faster and dilute your drink. Plus, it’s just not as refreshing.
Place the limes in the glass cut-side up: Muddling against the soft pulp is much easier than breaking down the tough lime peel.
Gently muddle the mint: Overbruising the mint can lead to a bitter mojito. It doesn’t take much pressure to extract the mint oil. A few light turns takes care of the job.
Perfect Pairing
I always love a mojito with a big plate of jerk chicken or jerk pork. The warm spices are lovely with the fruity strawberry, and the entire meal makes you feel like you’re on the beach. On the side, make sure you serve some coconut-lime rice with this tropical pico de gallo or mango-habanero salsa.
You also can’t go wrong with a big plate of tacos. I bet you’ll especially love my lobster tacos with this fruity mojito.
And, of course, this drink is also great with fruity desserts. Try this strawberry-ginger cheesecake or berry cobbler.
When you need a refreshing summer cocktail, I hope you try this fresh strawberry mojito. With its burst of fresh fruit flavor, this twist on a classic Cuban cocktail will be your new favorite patio cocktail.
Cheers!
