Biology

Frogadier is a light-blue, bipedal, frog-like Pokémon. A dark blue marking covers its head and forms a three-pointed mark down its upper back. Its eyes have yellow sclerae, black irises, and white pupils. Its eyes protrude slightly from the top of its head and each has a backward-facing spike above it. It has a white bubble scarf, dark blue hands and circular toes, and white circular fingers.

Frogadier is a nimble and swift Pokémon; it can scale a tower exceeding 2,000 feet (600 meters) in one minute. It can also throw bubble-coated pebbles at targets up to 100 feet (30 meters) away. The reason for this is due to the tips of its fingers and toes allowing it to stick firmly onto vertical surfaces. It can confound opponents by leaping about ceilings or into trees.[1] Frogadier is an expert on creating battle strategies that make use of the terrain. Due to this, it will never miss its mark when throwing bubble-covered pebbles.

Trivia

  • Frogadier and its evolutionary line are the only Water-type first partner Pokémon line to be in the Water 1 Egg Group and only the Water 1 Egg Group.

Origin

Frogadier is based on a frog.[2] Considering its crouched pose, dark blue "hooded" face and upper body, as well as its scarf-like foam, Frogadier is more than likely based on a ninja as well. The spiked protrusions above its eyes may have been inspired by horned frogs from the genera Megophrys and Ceratophrys. Its bubbling white foam is a reference to frog foam nests, created by some species such as the túngara frog and grey foam-nest tree frog to protect eggs.

Frogadier was shown in the Pokémon the Series: XY episode A Rush of Ninja Wisdom! to be able to run on the surface of water, which could be a reference to ninjas supposedly being able to walk on water using mizugumo.

Name origin

Frogadier may be a combination of frog and brigadier or grenadier.

Gekogashira may be a combination of げこっ geko (croak) and 若頭 wakagashira (a young Yakuza subordinate leader) or 小頭 kogashira (head of an organizational section).
