Afront squat is a tricky exercise that many people may find uncomfortable at the beginning, but once you get hold of it you will relish its benefits for your body.

Beginners sometimes struggle getting into a proper position which could hurt their upper chest, while other feel that the bar may roll off of them, but once you get the technique right, you will find it fairly easy.

How to perform front squats

Whenever you are front squatting, ideally what you want to see the bar track over your mid foot, which means that your body is in balance and capable of producing efficient force and power.

It is very important that when you get under the bar to perform a front squat, that's the only chance you have to secure a solid foundation for the bar to sit on.

To start with, place the bar in line with the collar bones and resting lightly on the front of the deltoids. Then, squat down slowly, making sure that the bar is over your mid foot.

You should also be aware that your feet should be shoulder-width apart while you doing the same on your way up.

A mistake people use to do is when they get in front squad position is holding the bar at the clavicle and once they start squatting down they are trying to get into a normal squad position. However, if you perform front squats this way there is a danger that the squat is going to roll off your shoulders.

The benefits of front squats

Front squats help you work your hamstrings, quadriceps and glutes. This exercise also helps you improve your core strength and posture. It also helps athletes prevent injuries, as by working your quads you improve your mobility, speed and endurance.
