Recycling & donating your old furniture

How to dispose of old furniture?

If you’re looking to upgrade your home or move out, you may find it hard to get rid of your old furniture.

Here are some quick ways to dispose of old furniture -

1. Take it to a landfill site near your city

Find a local landfill site near your city and ask them if they accept the type of furniture that you want to dispose of and if they are open for public dumping. Once they confirm that they will accept your furniture, you can load it into a pickup truck and carry it to the landfill site. The landfill sites usually charge a fee to dispose of your furniture.

2. Donate it to a local charity

If your furniture is still in a good usable condition, you can carry it to your local charity and donate it. You can also ask the charity if they are willing to pick-up your furniture from your home. Some organizations that offer pick-up may take multiple weeks to come by, so this may not be ideal if you need the furniture gone quickly.

3. Talk to your local scrap metal dealer

Most metal furniture can be recycled at a recycling facility. First you need to determine if the metal is ferrous or non-ferrous. Hold a magnet close to the metal furniture and if it sticks, it’s ferrous.
