Vaynerchuk is the founder of VaynerMedia, Empathy Wines and Resy, and chairman of VaynerX, a communications company that employs over 800 people, with revenues of $130 million per year.

The Russian-born entrepreneur is the son of Sasha and Tamara Vaynerchuk, and has one sibling, a younger brother named AJ Vaynerchuk, who is also Gary Vee's business partner in various ventures. In 1978, Gary's family immigrated to the U.S. from what was, at that time, the Soviet Union, settling in Edison, New Jersey after living in Queens for some time.

Vaynerchuk graduated from North Hunterdon High School in 1993, and by his own accounts, was never a model student. His passion for business, however, was evident ever since he was a child, joining his family's retail-wine business by the age of 14.

Gary Vee's wine career

By 2003, five years after graduating from Mount Ida College in Newton, MA, Gary Vee grew his family's wine business from $3 million a year in revenue to $60 million. He launched online sales and started a daily video blog on YouTube called Wine Library TV, which he ended after 1000 episodes.

Gary Vee co-founded Empathy Wines and sold it to Constellation Brands in 2020. Vaynerchuk has been described as the original wine guru on YouTube, where he gave wine reviews, held testings, and offered advice on which wines to purchase.

Vaynerchuk stepped down from the wine business in 2011 to focus on building VaynerMedia, a digital advertising agency he founded with his brother AJ in 2009. VaynerMedia provides social media strategy services to companies like Pepsi, Anheuser-Busch and Hulu.

Questions of their divorce surfaced after Gary Vee posted a photo on Instagram with Mona Vand, seemingly his new girlfriend.

Vaynerchuk has always been private when it comes to his personal life, and he has yet to confirm if he is divorced. If Gary divorces Lizzie, she would be entitled to half of his fortune.
