WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - If your wallet is running on empty at the gas pump, it’s not just you.
For the eighth straight week, gas prices have risen across the nation.
“The national average could rise five to fifteen cents a gallon in the next one or two weeks,” said Head of Petroleum Analysis Patrick De Haan.
According to GasBuddy, the average gas price in the Wilmington area right now is around $3.56.
In the state of North Carolina as a whole, prices rose a little over eight cents in just a week.
“It’s pretty bad,” said North Carolina resident Matthew Dulanskey. “It’s $80 for me to fill up my tank right now. It was $1 two years ago, and now it’s pretty ridiculous. It’s way more than premium used to be just to get unleaded.”
In the last month, North Carolina has seen a 31 cent jump in gas prices. Compared to last year, prices have gone up throughout the state over $1 since February of 2021.
“Four dollars a gallon is definitely a possibility by April or May,” said De Haan.
Prices hurting many commuter’s wallets, and their travel plans.
“People are going to have to reconsider how far they can travel, or if they even need to change their vehicles for commutes,” said Dulanskey.
Leaving the prices steadily climbing, and driver’s wallets draining.
“The primary impact is on American’s wallets,” said De Haan. “They will be paying more at the pump, evenly distributed across much of the country.”
