https://madisonbeer.com/Madison Elle Beer (born March 5, 1999), known professionally as Madison Beer, is a Jewish-American singer-songwriter, producer, music video director, model and author. Critics acclaimed her music's ethereal and contemplative tone, focusing on Madison Beer's expressive vocals, her commanding voice, and the sincere, unfiltered nature of her lyrics, alongside the rich, textured production.
Born in New York, Madison started uploading covers to YouTube in early 2012. She gained attention later that year when Justin Bieber shared her cover of Etta James's "At Last". This exposure led to her signing with Island Records. The following year, on September 12, 2013, she released her debut single, "Melodies" which featured a cameo by Bieber in its music video.
In 2018, Beer independently released her debut extended play (EP), As She Pleases, which included singles like "Dead" and "Home With You". Both of them were certified Gold by the RIAA. One year afterward, Madison Beer signed with Epic Records and went on to release her debut studio album, Life Support, in 2021. The album was backed by several singles, including "Selfish", which gained widespread attention after going viral on TikTok. To promote the album, she embarked on The Life Support Tour, covering North America and Europe between late 2021 and mid-2022. In September 2023, Beer released her second studio album, Silence Between Songs, earning her her first Grammy nomination in her career. The following year, the single "make you mine" secured Beer her second Grammy nomination. To support her newest projects, Beer launched The Spinnin Tour and The Encore in 2024, with performances across Europe, North America and Australia. Towards the end of 2025, Beer announced her third studio album, Locket, alongside the singles "yes baby" and "bittersweet". "bittersweet" marked her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100.
Aside from her solo work, Beer has voiced the virtual character Evelynn in the League of Legends virtual band K/DA. As a member of the group she has released the internationally charting singles "Pop/Stars" (2018) and "More" (2020). Beer has also appeared on television series such as Todrick (2015) and RuPaul's Drag Race (2020), and in the film Louder Than Words (2013).
In April 2023, Beer celebrated her debut memoir, The Half Of It, which has been praised for its honesty and vulnerability, offering readers a deeper understanding of Beer's personal and professional challenges.

Early life[]
Madison Elle Beer was born on March 5, 1999 in Jericho, Long Island, New York. She lived there with her Ashkenazi Jewish family, which included her father, Robert Beer, a real estate developer; her mother Tracie Beer, an interior designer who later shifted her focus to Madison's career; and her younger brother Ryder Beer, who is a music producer.
Child (magazine) of 2003
From a young age, Beer was often in the public spotlight. At just four years old, in 2003, she appeared on the cover of Child Magazine after winning a modeling competition. However, singing and performing had always been her true passion. Since birth, Madison dreamed of becoming a singer and performing on American Idol.[1]
Her parents divorced in 2006 when she was only seven years old.[2] After the divorce, she primarily lived with her mother and visited her father from time to time. Even though her father later remarried, her biological parents stayed on good terms.[3] "I was very fortunate that my parents were able to keep a relationship despite getting divorced" - Madison Beer.[4]
Madison at Point O'Pines
As a child, Madison spent her summers at Point O'Pines sleepaway camp in New York.[5] While the camp isn't "explicitly Jewish," as Emily Burack noted in an article for HeyAlma, it is primarily attended by Jewish campers.[6] In 2012, Beer celebrated her Bat Mitzvah in New York, where she performed "Life's A Beat".[7]
According to World Top 2, Madison completed elementary and middle school, and although she was homeschooled for a period due to attendance issues, she ultimately graduated from 'Jericho Middle School'. During this time, she was learning from home while pursuing her career in Los Angeles.[8] "I always knew I wanted to have a proper education regardless of my career or housing situation, Home schooling was really the only proper choice for me when I got signed."[9]
Career[]
2012–2016: Career beginnings[]
Beer and Bieber in 2012
As a preteen, Beer began to develop an obsession with YouTube, especially with the cover artist Christina Grimmie, as it was her dream to also release her own covers on it. Therefore, when Madison Beer was just 12 years old, a friend of her mother gave them access to a recording studio in New York in order to get a feeling of what it's like to record music.[10] In early 2012, Beer started posting covers of popular songs on YouTube, just two weeks after she got her braces off. Her first cover was of Christina Aguilera's "Hurt", although the video has since been deleted. The cover was mainly uploaded to show her talent off to her close family. After that, Beer continued posting more song covers until she released "At Last" by Etta James on May 1, 2012. The cover caught the attention of American (Donated from Canada) singer Justin Bieber, who tweeted a link to it for his followers on July 17, 2012.[11] This led to Beer trending on Twitter and receiving significant media attention. Bieber personally signed her to Island Records, the same label he was signed to, and at the time, she was managed by his manager, Scooter Braun. In the middle of seventh-grade, Beer was pulled out of school and relocated, along with her mother and younger brother, Ryder, to Los Angeles.[12] From then on, she was living a double life between New York and Los Angeles.
Following that, Madison participated in several smaller projects. In February 2013, Cody Simpson re-released his song "Valentine" featuring Beer, which played on Radio Disney but was never officially released. Later, in June 2013, Madison teamed up with Monster High to create the theme song "We Are Monster High".
Unreleased debut album[]
Melodies (full picture)
In 2013, Beer began working on her debut album, which was intended to feature a blend of pop and R&B influences. She described it as including "slow songs, sad songs, happy songs, songs about boys, and songs about being who you are".[13] In August 2013, Beer invited her fans to choose the artwork for her debut single.[14] A few weeks later, on September 12, 2013, she released the single, titled "Melodies", along with its accompanying music video, which featured Justin Bieber, who had a guest appearance. "Unbreakable", Madison's second single, was released on June 17, 2014. However, it significantly underperformed compared to her debut single. This is widely speculated to be a key reason her album was ultimately scrapped.
As a result, Beer returned to participating primarily in smaller projects. On February 24, 2015, the collaboration with Madison and DJ Mako on the song "I Won't Let You Walk Away" was released along with a music video. In September of the same year, Beer released "All For Love" featuring American duo Jack & Jack. Following the release, Beer did not put out any new music for several years.
Beer working on her scrapped debut album
Over time, Madison grew increasingly dissatisfied with the direction her debut album was taking. She had recorded over a hundred songs, many of which she no longer felt connected to as she matured.[15] Despite her reservations, there was pressure from those around her to release the material, discouraging her from discarding tracks she no longer liked. She later revealed that Island Records offered her little creative control, with songs often being assigned to her without much input or choice.[15] The label pushed for a polished, pop-oriented image reminiscent of a "Disney queen", which conflicted with her artistic vision. Being young and unfamiliar with the workings of the industry, she felt creatively stifled and trapped during that period.[16] At the age of 16, after 3 years with Island Records, Madison parted ways with her manager and record label. This caused her last single before publishing her debut extended play, "Something Sweet" to be released independently.

Madison explained that she hadn't truly found her sound until she reached a more mature age.[15] Having started releasing music at the age of 13, she acknowledged that the years between 13 and 19 were a period of significant personal growth and self-discovery. The music she began releasing later, she felt, was a much more authentic reflection of her experiences, personal development, and identity. For her, this newer work represented a genuine portrayal of who she was and everything she had been through.[17]
Dead launch party
Madison began working with Access Records in 2017 for the release of her debut extended play. Beer recorded her debut extended play (EP), As She Pleases, over a five-year period. It was released on February 2, 2018, through Access Records featuring 7 tracks. "Dead" served as the lead single from the EP, released on May 19, 2017. The music video followed on August 3, 2017. After it received critical acclaim, Beer released "Say It To My Face" as the second single on November 3, 2017. The music video was released a few weeks later on November 15, 2017. On March 10, 2018, "Home With You" was released as the third and final single from the EP. It marked the first collaboration between Madison and producer Leroy Clampitt. This track was not originally intended to be released as a single; however, following the release of the EP, it garnered the most attention and emerged as a standout among listeners. In August of the same year, the song reached number 21 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart, distinguishing Madison as the only female solo artist on the chart at the time without the backing of a major record label.
As She Pleases Tour
To celebrate the success of the EP, Beer announced the As She Pleases Tour on January 28, 2018, via Instagram. The first leg of the tour began in Europe on March 11, 2018. Starting on April 26, 2018, Beer then performed in North America, with the tour concluding on May 20, 2018. In total, 29 shows were held.
In September 2018, Madison collaborated with David Guetta on a track for his studio album 7. Titled "Blame It On Love" the song was released as the eleventh track on September 14, 2018.
K/DA
K/DA was introduced at the 2018 League of Legends World Championship Opening Ceremony in Incheon on November 3, 2018, with the release of their debut single, "Pop/Stars". The bilingual song blends K-pop and American pop influences, featuring vocals by Beer and Burns in English, and by Soyeon and Miyeon in both English and Korean. During the ceremony, Beer, Burns, Miyeon, and Soyeon performed "Pop/Stars" on stage, alongside augmented reality versions of their characters. The music video for "Pop/Stars" went viral, surpassing 100 million views within a month and reaching 550 million views by May 2023, topping Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart. In 2020, K/DA released their debut five-track EP, All Out, featuring the singles "More" and also "Villain" which also features German singer Kim Petras.

On November 9, 2018, Madison released "Hurts Like Hell" along with the music video, as the lead single of her debut album. The song was co-written by pop-star Charli XCX and featured Migos member Offset. After its release, Beer announced that the album would be released sometime in 2019. However, "Hurts Like Hell" was later removed from the album.[18]

This was followed by its second single "Selfish", which was released on Valentine's Day in 2020. It gained universal acclaim. Billboard magazine praised Beer's vocal performance on the song, committed to the approach and confident in her skills as a vocalist. Additionally, a promotional single "Stained Glass" was published on March 4, 2020. A visualizer for the song followed on April 4th. Beer released the third single from the album, "Baby", on August 21, 2020 alongside the music video. In October, Madison shared two remixes of "Baby".
Selfish
The fourth single, "BOYSHIT," was released in December 2020. Along with the release of the song, Beer revealed the album's release date. In December 2020, she was also announced as Vevo's new LIFT artist. To support the campaign, live performances of her previous singles "Selfish" and "BOYSHIT" were released that same month. A short film for the campaign, titled Dreams Look Different in the Distance, was released in January 2021.

On May 17, 2021, Beer announced The Life Support Tour, which is Madison Beer's second concert tour in support of her debut album Life Support. It began on October 18, 2021 in Toronto, Canada and concluded on April 28, 2022 in Oslo, Norway with several shows throughout North America and Europe.

Leroy and Madison recording new songs
Following the release of Life Support, Madison initially planned to release her sophomore album the same year. Beer confirmed in an interview in 2021 on the Zach Sang Show that she is working on a second album and 7 songs are currently written for it, saying "We have seven songs on the second album already, and we had four days of a writing camp". However, the release was postponed due to the impact of COVID-19 and the Dropbox hack. On November 8, 2021, Madison Beer's father Robert Beer was hacked, which caused the leak of over 100 songs and demos (Dropbox Hack). Therefore, many songs were scrapped off of Madison's upcoming second studio album. Neither Madison nor Robert publicly addressed the matter or pursued legal action. During mid 2021, Beer and her team attended writing camps to improve her writing skills. Madison once showed the writing-process of a song called "Unlovable".[20]

Sexuality[]
Beer at The Spinnin Tour
In a 2020 Instagram live stream, Madison stated that she identifies as bisexual. She explained that she never felt a strong need to formally "come out," as her family has always been accepting of the LGBTQ+ community. She also shared that her grandfather, Marty, is gay and married to a man. Beer further expressed that she has previously been in a relationship with a woman.[32]
In a separate live stream from March 2020, Beer confirmed once more that she is bisexual and stated that she came out publicly around 2016–2017. She noted that she had addressed the topic multiple times, expressing that her sexuality was neither new nor something she had hidden, saying she has "always been" bisexual. Additionally, she has previously shared that she has been in love with a woman.[33]
Following rumors of a breakup with Jack Gilinsky, Beer began speaking more openly about her sexual orientation. She expressed "I'm not a lesbian, but I definitely love girls", she added "I wouldn't categorize myself as straight, because I think labels are really weird. [...] I've been in love with a girl before and I just don’t think that’s anything bad".[34] In 2023, during an interview on the Zach Sang Show, Madison revealed that she had written a song about a past relationship with a girl titled "The Way She Loves Me".[35]
Relationships[]
Jack Gilinsky (2014-2017)[]
Gilinsky and Beer in 2017
Madison Beer and Jack Gilinsky met in mid-2014 and began dating privately in July of that year, eventually confirming their relationship publicly in March 2015.[36] Throughout 2015 and 2016, the couple appeared at various public events and spent holidays and vacations together. Despite public scrutiny due to their age difference, they remained together for nearly three years. In 2017, serious issues in the relationship surfaced when audio clips of verbal abuse by Gilinsky toward Beer were leaked online, prompting widespread backlash.[37] Both parties later confirmed their breakup. Beer released a statement encouraging others to speak up against mistreatment, citing her own fear and emotional struggle during the relationship.[38]
Brooklyn Beckham (2017)[]
Beckham and Beer
In April 2017, rumors of a romance between Madison Beer and Brooklyn Beckham emerged after they were seen together at Coachella. Beer initially denied the claims, citing her relationship with Jack Gilinsky. After their breakup, reports suggested she and Beckham were romantically involved, though Beer maintained they were just friends with mutual interest. Despite her denial, media reported sightings of the pair kissing, and sources claimed Victoria Beckham disapproved of the relationship. Their connection ended by August 2017, reportedly due to Beckham's move and Beer's unwillingness to pursue a long-distance relationship.[39]
Zack Bia (2017-2019)[]
Bia and Beer
Madison Beer and Zack Bia began dating in late 2017, with their relationship appearing on-and-off throughout 2018 and early 2019. Despite public arguments and breakup rumors—most notably following a July 2018 altercation caught on video—the two maintained their relationship intermittently.[40] They were seen together again in December 2018 but officially ended their relationship in March 2019 after approximately two years.[41] Although rumors suggested lingering ties into late 2019, they were not publicly seen together again until reuniting briefly at the amfAR Gala in November 2022, indicating they remain on amicable terms.[42]
Nick Austin (2020-2025)[]
Austin and Beer
Madison Beer and Nick Austin began their relationship in 2020, with dating rumors surfacing in August of that year. They officially confirmed their relationship via Instagram in March 2021, when Austin posted a birthday tribute to Beer. In March 2022, Austin shared additional praise for Beer on social media, affirming their strong bond. However, in October 2024, speculation about a breakup emerged after Madison's mother unfollowed Austin on Instagram, followed by Beer and Austin unfollowing each other shortly thereafter. These events, coupled with Madison's mention of experiencing a difficult time mentally, led to unconfirmed rumors of infidelity. Despite this, the couple was seen together in Los Angeles in November 2024, and Beer has since referred to Austin as her boyfriend in interviews. In early 2025, Nick was spotted with a girl at a party, confirming that they had split things.[43]
Justin Herbert (2025-Present)[]
Herbert and Beer
On August 18, 2025, leaked pictures of Madison Beer and Justin Herbert during a music video in Hancock Park surfaced. This caused rumors of a romantic relationship between the two. On August 25, 2025, Beer and Herbert shared their first official public appearance together in Los Angeles. However, the relationship was confirmed when Herbert and Beer shared a kiss together at a Chargers game in LA.

Madison Beer has openly discussed her long-standing struggles with mental health, attributing a significant part of her challenges to the pressures of social media and the internet. She addressed these concerns through her song "Dear Society", which serves as a reflection on the negative impact societal expectations and online culture have had on her well-being, as well as in her own memoir The Half Of It.
In an interview with The Face, Beer opened up about having bpd "[...] I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. I was suicidal at one point. I was going through a really tough time [...], once I was given a diagnosis, going through therapy three times a week, I was getting more in touch with my emotions and figuring out how to be stable. I was able to write better and understand myself better. So I could just write the story how I wanted it to be told.”[44]
In 2023, Madison Beer opened up on the Call Her Daddy podcast about the emotional impact of a leaked nude video from her early teens. She recounted the trauma of discovering the video was circulating online, saying the memory remains so vivid that late-night phone calls still trigger the fear she felt at the time. Beer revealed she was around 13 or 14 years old when the content was created, having sent the videos to a boy she trusted during her travels between Los Angeles and her hometown. She later suspected he used an app to record the private Snapchats without her knowledge. Despite having known him her whole life, she said, “I was wrong.” Aware of the likelihood the video would go public, she expressed that she had a gut feeling from the moment it was forwarded to her that it would end up online, acknowledging the painful reality that she couldn’t escape its spread. Beer also shared that when she contacted someone who had posted one of the videos online and pleaded for its removal, they blocked her instead of taking it down.
Madison Beer disclosed that she experienced sexual abuse at the age of six or seven by an individual who was frequently present in her life. While she did not specify the person's identity or the nature of their relationship, she acknowledged that the trauma from this experience—combined with the distress caused by the leak of her private photos and videos—contributed significantly to a deep emotional and psychological struggle. Between fourteen and fifteen years old, Beer was sexually assaulted again at a party in LA.
In a 2023 interview and her memoir The Half of It, Madison Beer reflected on the profound emotional toll of her early trauma, revealing that the summer of 2019 marked a turning point in her mental health. During that time, she began to fully confront the effects of her past, which led to a period of intense emotional distress. She admitted to relapsing into self-harming behaviors and shared that she had attempted to take her own life on two occasions, first at the age of 16. Beer recounted standing on the edge of her balcony, overwhelmed by intrusive thoughts, describing the moment as less about intent and more about the awareness of having an "escape" if things became unbearable. Her younger brother ultimately discovered her and alerted their parents, an incident that made her realize how normalized such thoughts had become for her. She emphasized the seriousness of suicidal ideation and expressed gratitude that she survived, urging others to take mental health struggles seriously and not to trivialize them.
Artistry[]
From a young age, Madison Beer was an avid fan of Britney Spears and Lady Gaga. She was particularly captivated by Lady Gaga's VMA performance of "Paparazzi" at the age of eight, which left a lasting impression and inspired her to pursue a similar path in the future. When she began her YouTube career by posting covers, Beer found inspiration in Christina Grimmie, whose performances she admired and was deeply fascinated by.[45]
At the outset of her career, Madison Beer's vocal style was influenced by artists such as Janet Jackson and Alicia Keys.[46] When she released her single "Baby," fans noted similarities to Ariana Grande's music. Madison responded, stating, "I've been an Ariana fan since I was very young. I believe there's nothing wrong with being inspired by someone, and I look up to Ariana so much—she's one of my idols. I think she's incredibly strong and beautiful, and I don't understand why being inspired by her in any way would ever be an issue".[47]
For Silence Between Songs, Madison Beer drew inspiration from iconic artists such as The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Tame Impala, and Lana Del Rey.[48] Musically, the album reflects her deep appreciation for 1960s music. Influenced by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Turtles whose song "You Showed Me" she samples, Beer sought to capture the essence of that era. She notes "I think the '60s was such an experimental time for music. There's nothing like 'God Only Knows' by The Beach Boys. Songs like that still stand at the top 60 years later." One standout track, "Spinnin," draws from The Beatles' "Yesterday," experimenting with song structure in a fresh and unique way. "There's not really a chorus, it just loops. I liked the idea of a song that never really ends," she explains. "I know I’ll never top The Beatles or The Beach Boys, but they inspire me to make something that will touch people the way their music touches me".[49]
