ORIGIN George Kennedy was an Oscar-winning actor best know for the film, Cool Hand Luke. He was born on February 18, 1925 in New York City. His mother, Helen, was a ballet dancer and his father, George Sr., was a musician. Kennedy attended Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York. He enlisted in the U.S. military during World War II. He offered 16 years of service.

CAREER Kennedy made his stage debut when he was 2 years old. He started appearing in television shows like Rawhide, Maverick and Colt .45 in the late 1950s. Kennedy made his film debut in the 1961 CinemaScope film, The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come. In 1967, he starred alongside Paul Newman in the prison drama film, Cool Hand Luke. His performance earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Kennedy became know for playing tough, no-nonsense characters in numerous westerns and disaster films. He starred opposite Clint Eastwood in the films, ‘Thunderbolt and Lightfoot’ and ‘The Eiger Sanction’. Other notable films include Hurry Sundown, Bandolero!, The Dirty Dozen, Airport and Earthquake.

PERSONAL George Kennedy died on February 28, 2016 at the age of 91. His reported cause of death was heart ailment. His death was confirmed by grandson Cory Schenkel. Kennedy was married to first wife “Dorothy Gillooly” in the 1940s. He then married “Norma Wurman (1959-1978)” followed by “Joan McCarthy (1978-2015)”. He had three daughters, Taylor, Shaunna and Betty. George Kennedy was 6ft 4in tall and had German, Irish and English ancestry. He had a net worth of $5 million.
