Robbie Roper, a Georgia high school quarterback who was being recruited by multiple colleges, died from surgery complications on Wednesday. He was 18. The Roper family made the announcement on his social media page:

"Hey guys, it's the Roper family. We just wanted to update everyone on Robbie. Robbie just passed. He was the biggest joy to our family. We are proud of the young man he has become. He will be missed by his friends and family dearly. We are still working on funeral arrangements, and will update everyone on the time, date and location," the tweet read.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the QB was hospitalized Sunday and underwent a routine procedure.

"Robbie did everything in life with a contagious, positive and energetic attitude that will be missed by all who knew him. Robbie fought hard and battled until the very end like he did everything else," Chris Prewett, who coached Roper at Roswell High School, told the newspaper.

Others in the football community posted about the young quarterback, including the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons Twitter page posted, "Football is family. And we are saddened by the passing of one of our local high school football family members. May he rest in peace as we keep his family, friends and all those mourning his loss in our prayers."

Roper was being recruited by several colleges and, according to 247 Sports, received offers to play football from UMass, Morehead State, Morgan State and Western Carolina. He lead his high school football team to a 10-3 record and a top-10 ranking in Georgia's Class 7A with a 10-3 record this season.
