Get A Down Syndrome Awareness License Plate

Show support for individuals with Down syndrome.

Spread the word about Down syndrome awareness and support our mission to enhance the lives of individuals with Down syndrome and their families by purchasing a Down syndrome awareness license plate. The license plate is available to be placed on a Passenger vehicle, trucks weighing 11,000 lb. or less, recreational vehicles, and motorcycles (including autocycles).

Down syndrome Awareness license plates can be purchased in person, at any Indiana BMV branch, at a BMV Connect kiosk, or online. To find the plate online, visit the BMV website at: https://www.in.gov/bmv/registration-plates/indianas-organizational-license-plates/. Select the plate labeled, “Down Syndrome Indiana”.

How much does the Down syndrome Awareness special group license plate cost?

In addition to your standard license plate fees, there is an additional fee of $35. The $35 fee includes an administrative fee from the BMV of $15 and $20 which is distributed back to Down Syndrome Indiana.

If you want to personalize the license plate, there is an additional $45 fee.

Can I get a Down syndrome Awareness special group license plate before my plate is officially up for renewal?

Yes. A person can request the plates anytime during the year. They will pay a $9.50 amend registration fee, and the $35 SGR fee.

What if I have a handicapped license plate?

You have to choose either the handicapped license plate or the Down Syndrome Awareness plate. There is not a way to do both.

Do I have to go in person to the BMV?

You can get your plates online at: https://www.in.gov/bmv/registration-plates/indianas-organizational-license-plates/. However, if you have a low-digit (1 – 100) plate form from the organization, you must go into a BMV branch to purchase your plates.

What if I want a low digit plate?

If you want a low digit plate (numbers 1-100), you must receive a form from Down Syndrome Indiana. Low digit plates must be purchased in person from a BMV branch.
