Households need to have carts in good condition with adequate bin space to make the most of the blue, black and green carts. Calgarians can request cart repairs, replacements, additional carts and more to meet their waste needs.
Blue, black and green bins are the property of The City of Calgary and are assigned to homes rather than people. Please do not take your cart with you when you move.
Get carts for a newly built home
If you're moving into a newly built home, please submit your 311 request for new bins no earlier than 14 days before your move-in date. Carts will be delivered directly to your home at no charge.
Request carts for new homesReplace broken carts or missing carts
Your cart may need repair or replacement if:
- The lid is cracked or missing.
- The lid does not fully cover your garbage, recycling or composting.
- The body of the cart is cracked.
- The wheels are missing or broken so the cart won't stand upright.
- The entire cart is missing.
We do not replace carts due to scratches, cleanliness or odour.
Cart repairs and replacement are available at no charge.
Request cart repair/replacementSharing carts – fourplexes and row houses
If you live in a row house or fourplex, you and your neighbors can share carts to save space.
Discuss with your neighbors how many black, blue, and green carts are needed to ensure adequate service. Once you’ve agreed, call 311 to have The City pick up the unneeded carts. When you call, reference the WRS – Programs service request.
- A minimum of one (1) Black Cart, one (1) Blue Cart, and one (1) Green Cart is required at each location. You may add or remove bins at any time.
- Monthly program fees will still apply to each household even if carts are removed.
Requesting Additional Carts
Sometimes, households may require an extra cart(s) to handle the amount of recycling, food and yard waste or garbage. There are different options available depending on your situation.
