Advanced Search Giancarlo Stanton is an American professional baseball player, presently playing as an outfielder and designated hitter for the ‘New York Yankees’ of the ‘Major League Baseball.’ In 2014 he was signed by the ‘Miami Marlins’ to the largest contract in the history of team-sport for $325 million over 13 years. He was earlier known by the name ‘Mike Stanton.’ Born in Panorama City and raised in Tujunga, California, he was a three-sport player in high school, but chose to follow baseball. The ‘Miami Marlins’ picked him in the second round of the ‘2007 Amateur Draft.’ After playing in various minor leagues, he made his major league debut in 2010. With a height of 1.98m and 111kg weight, he is famous for hitting long home runs. After hitting 37 home runs through a dominant 2014 season, he earned the largest contract in sports history. He has been a 4 times MLB All-Star and winner of two NL ‘Hank Aaron Award’ and two ‘Silver Slugger Award.’ In 2017, he was National League MVP after he led major leagues with 59 home runs, and slugging percentage .631. He is youngest of three children with elder brother Egidio Carlos Moacir Garay Stanton, and sister, Kyrice Valivia. He is of mixed African-American, Irish and Puerto Rican ancestry. His parents divorced when he was 8, and was raised by his mother in Tujunga, Los Angeles.[During his school days his first name created confusions, so he made it simple ‘Mike.’ Once he became a known personality, Stanton announced that he preferred his given name.]Stanton studied at the ‘Verdugo Hills High School’ in Tujunga, California. He played for his school team, ‘Verdugo Hills Dons,’ but had academic issues. His parents, who were going through divorce at the time, enrolled him in private school, ‘Notre Dame High School,’ in Sherman Oaks. Here, he became a three-sport player.Stanton played basketball, and also played as wide receiver and cornerback for gridiron football. Initially playing in the lower half order of school baseball team, in his junior year he played in the ‘Area Code games’ (All-Star baseball tournament in California).
