We won't be finding out until August what we are having :( But for girl names I'm leaning towards Leena. It would be to honor my MIL (Kathleen) DH isn't 100% sold on it yet.
Today I thought of Hydie. My maiden name is Hydo, so I thought that was kind of cute :) DH says he likes it, but would prefer Heidi. I'm normally all for traditional spellings, but I don't think it holds the same meaning spelling it Heidi rather than Hydie.
I have an Alyssa, Casten (DS) and Maizie

Well, I suppose when you explain the context of last name it helps a bit, but really, your daughter isn't going to go through life with that in parentheses behind her name, and at first glance - KEEP IN MIND, YOU ASKED FOR OPINIONS! NO OFFENSE INTENDED! - I would think:
"huh...poor kid's parents are illiterate. They didn't know how to spell Heidi".
And I say that with my last name on the list of potential first names for a girl. So I get honoring mama's name.
I'm a HUGE fan of Leena - think it's adorable.
Best of luck with your decision!

I personally like Hydie a lot more. It gets the point easily across what it is and isn't crazy out there. With people trying so hard to be unique and spelling names very crazy, nobody is going to have PPs thinking.
hmh87 Posted 07-06-12My name is Heidi. I'm so used to it be spelled this way that Hydie looks weird, so I'm inclined to suggest the traditional way. But I'm a bit biased. =)

Dude - again - you asked for opionions. I meant no offense, but I promise you that I will NOT be the only person with that response.
If you like Hydie a lot more, then name your baby Hydie. Bless. Go for it. But if you really just want folks to agree with you that you-neek is the way to go...you should let us know at the outset.
Again - I wish you the very best of luck with your decision.

I don't think people will think I'm illiterate...but probably will think I was trying to be creative with a traditional name :) Though maybe I'd prefer people think I'm illiterate :) I'm NOT one for creative spellings! HATE it in fact!
I'm actually being creative with the spelling of Leena also. I SHOULD spell it Lena or Lina, but I prefer Leena, because of being named after Kathleen. I think the other spellings might get mispronounced (same thing with my Maizie, I should have spelled it Maisie or Maisy, but didn't want people to pronounce it wrong! LOL! Plus the color Maize was our inspiration!)
