New Delhi: In simple terms, glassy eyes are defined as glazed or shiny eyes that often tend to stand out. This appearance is easily identifiable and while this could be an effect induced by the surrounding, it should not be ignored as it could be a sign of an underlying health condition.

Glassy eye causes

Here are some conditions that can cause glassy eyes:

1. Intoxication: Use of drugs, alcohol, etc. is one of the most common causes of glassy eyes. Contrary to a popular misconception, sometimes, it's not difficult to identify signs, just saying.
2. Dehydration: Did you know that not drinking enough water can make your eyes appear glassy? So the next time you come across your reflection in the water, make sure that you take steps to avoid letting your eyes turn into a reflective surface.
3. Allergies: An abnormal reaction of the immune system to a substance is known as an allergic reaction. Apart from flu-like symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, etc, allergies can also cause glassy eyes.
4. Conjunctivitis: Commonly known as pink eye, this condition is caused due to the inflammation of the conjunctiva. It can be a consequence of allergies or infections.
5. Glaucoma: This condition is caused due to damaged nerves and glassy eyes are a common symptom of the same. This condition can also put individuals at risk of blindness.
