Google Doodles

Google launched its Google Doodle project over a decade ago. As of 2019, over 4,000 Google Doodles have been created and displayed on homepages around the world, celebrating both well-known and under-recognised figures and events from the world of music and beyond.

The first video Doodle was a tribute to John Lennon’s 70th birthday, released on 8 October 2010. Google has made several musical doodles, the most recent ones being a celebration of Amanda Aldridge – a Black British opera singer, music teacher and composer who wrote under the pseudonym ‘Montague Ring’ – and the 44th anniversary of the birth of Hip Hop. Google Doodles typically centre around a key anniversary and vary from visual illustrations and animations to interactive games.
