New ChecklistAll ListsMy ChecklistsAllAll ListsMy ChecklistsThe Grappleshot is a piece of equipment in Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. Travelling across levels has never been so fun before the addition of this item. However, it brings more than a traversal option. Follow IGN’s guide to know more about its features and all the things you can do with it. Likewise, you can check our Equipment Upgrades section for the Grappleshot's campaign variant and upgrades.
Grappleshot Explained
The Grappleshot is basically a hook that you can use to reach platforms, enemies or grab different objects. To use it, you need to aim where you want and press the equipment button just once — it’s not necessary to hold it. When correctly connected, you'll advance towards the grapple point.
You can carry a maximum of five Grappleshots at the same time. Like any other piece of equipment, you need to pick up this tool from an Equipment Dispenser — a spot located on specific sections on the map — or from a fallen soldier.
Grappleshot Tips
- Calculating the distance in which your Grappleshot gets attached to anything can be difficult at first. Luckily, you have a visual clue for this: when your crosshair has a small yellow dot in the middle, it’s good to go.
- If you have grappled into a surface or platform you didn’t want, you can easily cancel your hook by pressing the crouch button. There’s no fall damage in Halo, so feel free to cut your hook whenever you need it.
- When hooked to a platform, you can hold forward and jump with some momentum. This also works the other way around: you’ll be pulled a bit more slowly to the grapple point if you hold back.
- The Grappleshot allows you to do a slingshot. This is a popular move in other competitive games with a hook mechanic. Basically, you can travel longer distances by using this trick: when grappling into a platform, look away from the hook, holding the opposite movement input, then look back to the grapple point and hold forward. Learning how and where to do slingshots can take some time, but this can be a game-changer mechanic for your battles.
- If you use this piece of equipment against an enemy, you’ll be pulled into them and automatically melee when in range. This can be a useful way of finishing wounded opponents, but bear in mind that they are able to shoot at you while hooked.
- However, you can take the previous tip to the next level: instead of grappling into an enemy, use the Grappleshot on a platform or surface above them. This takes practice, but you’ll get a chance to get to your enemy’s back and kill them with one punch.
- The Grappleshot has a three-second cooldown. While it may recharge fast, beware of waiting for the next use while fighting enemies. Also, remember that you can’t correct its course once you are pulled into anything.
- You can grapple into any kind of vehicle — except the Scorpion — using this piece of equipment. If the vehicle has an enemy driver, you’ll automatically kick them out before controlling it. However, depending on which part of the vehicle you grapple into, you will enter a different part of it. For instance, if there’s a Warthog being driven by an opponent and you grapple into its gunner seat, you’ll enter that specific seat and the enemy will continue to drive it.
- Apart from part of the maps, enemies and vehicles, your Grappleshot can grab objects like weapons, Oddball's objective, and even the flag of Capture the Flag — when it's out of the pedestal. Every object will be automatically equipped (or the weapon recharged if you pick up ammo).
