Grookey is one of the starter Pokémon available for you to pick at the beginning of your adventure in Pokémon Sword & Shield, alongside Scorbunny and Sobble. Grookey is a Grass-type Chimp Pokémon that carries a stick around with it, often putting it up near its head.

Grookey’s Evolution Line

Grookey evolves a total of two times before reaching its final evolutionary stage. The first evolution is Thwackey, which it evolves into at level 16.

Thwackey then evolves into Grookey’s final evolution, Rillaboom, at level 35.

Rillaboom remains a pure-Grass-type Pokémon, as is the case with all of its earlier evolutionary stages.

The stick that Grookey carries was originally a branch from a forest full of Grookey, but that branch now has special powers after being around Grookey and the energy it emits from its body.

Grookey’s fur is capable of generating energy from sunlight, which it can then share with wilted plants by drumming its stick near them.

Grookey has been shown to have a new move, Branch Poke, a weak Grass-type move. It is also confirmed to be capable of learning Razor Leaf, Slam, Uproar, and Knock Off.
