Ingredients of Guava Jam

  • 500 gm pink guava
  • citric acid as required
  • 800 gm sugar
  • 2 cup water

How to make Guava Jam

  • Step 1 Chop and boil the guavas

    To prepare this delicious jam recipe, wash the guavas thoroughly with water and chop into small pieces. Then put a deep-bottomed pan on medium flame and add water in it. Bring water to a boil and then add the chopped guavas in it and boil them too.

  • Step 2 Mash the guavas & strain to remove seeds

    When the guavas are boiled, drain the water and let them cool in a bowl. On cooling, mash these boiled guavas and strain through the jelly cloth.

  • Step 3 Cook the guava pulp with sugar & citric acid

    Now, put a pan on medium flame again and add this strained guava pulp and juice along with sugar and 1/2 teaspoon citric acid. Bring this mixture to a boil and stir well. Let the mixture thicken for a while.

  • Step 4 Let it cool when the mixture thickens

    When the mixture is thick enough for a jam-like consistency, switch off the flame and let it cool down at room temperature.

  • Step 5 Store in airtight containers

    Store this guava jam in seal tight containers or bottles. If you see any residue on top of the jar or the bottle, remove it. Enjoy the delicious guava jam with bread or as a topping with your favourite dessert.

Tips
  1. Sugar should be half the amount of the guava puree. You can adjust the sugar as per how much you are working with.
  2. Since this is a homemade jam, it will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  3. Do not put the jam into the fridge when it is still hot. Let it come to room temperature before refrigerating.
  4. You can also use normal sweet Guavas if you cannot find the pink ones.
  5. You can also use lemon or lime juice instead of citric acid.
  6. Add 1-2 tsp pectin while cooking Guava puree for giving it a jelly-like consistency.
