How do I format an in-text citation for a podcast in MLA style?

A podcast is a special type of audio media. Similar to a book, the hosts or the contributors are the creators of a podcast. Therefore, credit should be given to them while citing a podcast within the text.  A time stamp may be provided to ensure clarity of the source.

How do I format a works cited entry for a podcast in MLA style?

To cite a podcast in MLA, first list the host or narrator’s last and first name, followed by the episode’s title, the podcast’s name, and if applicable, the season number and episode number, publisher name, the specific date of the podcast (if available), and the URL (if applicable).

Example

Krishna, G. V., host. “On the Outside.” Reply Me, season 1, episode 54, Gimlet, 5 May 2017, www.gimeltmedia.com

To cite a podcast version of a recording that has other versions, specify the version “podcast ed.” after the original version details.

To cite a podcast accessed through an app, include the app name after the podcast details (e.g., Spotify app.).

To cite a podcast accessed from a separate host website, include the website details (website name and URL) after the podcast details.
