Halo Infinite Hints At Other Spartans Still Being Alive - Screen Rant

During the campaign of Halo Infinite, Master Chief encounters other Spartans who have fallen to the banished, but there could be others still alive. Infinite's campaign takes place a year after the events of Halo 5: Guardians as Master Chief now must defeat The Banished on Zeta Halo. Infinite breaks new ground for the franchise, as the campaign takes place on an open-world map that players can explore in their own time, but the campaign missions cannot be replayed.
The campaign for Halo Infinite was released on December 8, a month after the game's multiplayer was released early as part of Xbox's 20th-anniversary celebration and players don't have to purchase the campaign to play it. So far, balancing issues, bugs, and poor monetization have meant that Infinite's multiplayer isn't as good as the campaign, but developer 343 has already taken steps to improve its online experience.

Whether it is in multiplayer or single-player, playing as a Spartan super-soldier is a big reason Halo is one of the best FPS games with each new entry, but there might not be many Spartans left alive. It was assumed through most of the Halo series that Master Chief was the last Spartan alive after the Spartan base of Reach was destroyed by the Covenant, but in Halo 4 players discover there are others still in service, and even more are discovered in Infinite. However, due to the Banished attack on the ship Infinity at the start of Infinite's campaign, Master Chief again appears to be the last one of his kind remaining.
How Many Spartans Were On The Infinity?
Halo Infinite gets its name from the largest ship in the United Nations Space Command's (UNSC) fleet, The Infinity. The ship appears a lot in Halo 5's less Master Chief-focused campaign as players controlled Spartan Fireteams Blue and Osiris. Blue team is led by The Chief and consists of three other Spartan-II's whom Chief grew up with during Halsey's Spartan program. Osiris was led by Jameson Locke, who commands a team of three other Spartan-IVs, which we a newer generation of Spartans.
Fireteam Blue was sent off the Infinity on another mission without Master Chief before The Banished attack, so depending on whether they encountered The Banished somewhere else they could still be alive. Fireteam Osiris is likely dead, however, as Locke's helmet can be seen being worn on the armor of Hyperius, one of Halo Infinite's more difficult boss fights. 76 Spartans were also killed at Laconia Station by Cortana in Halo 5, so out of the estimated 7,150 troops on The Infinity, Master Chief appears to be the only Spartan to have survived.
What Happened To The Spartans On Zeta Halo
There was one other Spartan fireteam on The Infinity that made it off the ship and onto Zeta Halo, and some of them might still be alive. Fireteam Taurus was made up of Spartans Griffin, Vettel, Oshiro, and Dimka. Early in the campaign players find Spartan Griffin being tortured by Jega 'Rdomnai, and he eventually dies after Chief rescues him. The other members however were not found in the campaign and could still be alive. Players learn of Taurus' experiences on Zeta Halo through listening to the UNSC audio logs scattered throughout Halo Infinite's campaign.

During the campaign players also discover three more dead Spartans: Stone, Makovich, and Sorei, who were killed by the Banished's Spartan killer. These Spartans provide the armor upgrade modules for Chief's armor in the game. Other Spartans mentioned in the audio logs are Kovan and Horvath, who helped to evacuate Captain Lasky from The Infinity. There are no further mentions of Kovan and Horvath apart from their audio logs, so they could also still be alive on Zeta Halo.
Will There Be Any More Spartans In Halo Infinite?
Although Master Chief is the only Spartan alive that players see in Infinite's campaign, there is still a possibility they can see more in the future. If Halo Infinite receives a campaign DLC that could pave the way for more Spartans to appear on Zeta Halo with Master Chief. Throughout the game, players capture Forward Operating bases, destroy Banished stronghold, and rescue marine squads to rebuild the UNSC to take the fight back to the Banished, and finding more Spartans could be the next step.
Through listening to the audio logs and using information from previous Halo games, it is easy to believe that there are other Spartans out there on the Zeta Halo that could be found by Chief. DLC for Halo Infinite could focus on Chief and Weapon searching for the lost Spartans and Captain Lasky in a final effort to defeat the leaderless Banished and rebuild the UNSC. It would be a really good opportunity to add new regions to halo Infinite's open world and further show that Halo's Spartans are some of the coolest characters in gaming.
Other Halo Characters That Could Appear In Infinite
There are other popular characters that could appear in Halo Infinite's campaign in the future. Master Chief's legendary adversary-turned ally, The Arbiter, reappeared in Halo 5 after not being seen since Halo 3. The Arbiter was an Elite who aided Chief in stopping the Flood, and soon became the leader of the Elites in stopping splinter Covenant factions. There is no mention of him in Infinite, but he could make an appearance by helping Chief to stop the Banished on Zeta Halo.

Another faction from previous Halo games that weren't featured in Infinite was the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST). These un-augmented special forces featured in various Halo titles and received their own game, Halo 3: ODST, which has similarities to Infinite. Despite so many troops being on The Infinity, no ODSTs are found on Zeta Halo during the campaign, but their numbers and skills should mean that some of them have landed on The Ring. Perhaps in future missions, Master Chief will find some of them to help the other Marines stationed around the map.
The Halo Infinite campaign was big, and it succeeded in bringing the focus of the franchise back to Master Chief while feeling fresh due to the new gameplay elements. While Chief's relationship with Weapon and The Pilot were good, the game would have benefitted from some more distinct characters appearing consistently. If the DLC can at the very least confirm there are still other Spartans alive in Halo Infinite, then it makes it easier for future games to keep showing some of gaming's coolest characters.
