Harley Quinn's Weirdest Power Basically Makes Her Immortal

Harleen Quinzel aka Harley Quinn has accumulated a plethora of abilities throughout her fantabulous comic book career, but none have been as useful as her most peculiar one, a power that basically makes her immortal. Along with her incredibly high intellect, impressive fighting skills, and seemingly superhuman agility, Harley Quinn has an ability that some wouldn’t even consider a power at all, though it proved to be enough to keep her alive after she was brutally murdered.

In Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey #4 by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti, the Birds of Prey are fighting off nearly every supervillain in Gotham, from Penguin to Two-Face, and even Mr. Freeze. Meanwhile, the Joker has taken an unconscious Poison Ivy hostage in an effort to trap and kill Harley Quinn. Rather than finishing her off quick, the Joker relishes in his assumed victory and tortures Harley both physically and mentally.

During the torture, the Joker carves a giant ‘J’ into Harley Quinn’s chest in a sick attempt to mark her as his forever. While the emotional and psychological ramifications of this act of extreme violence are evident, the physical becomes even more so as Harley quickly begins to bleed to death. Before Joker finishes the job, Poison Ivy regains consciousness and throws him out of the window of her penthouse suite, then makes her way to Harley. Moments later, Harley Quinn dies and her soul is transported to the afterlife. While this might have meant the end of the line for most characters, Harley Quinn flexes her weirdest power to unwittingly ensure that her story doesn’t end here. When she stands before God and the Devil for them to decide if she should spend an eternity in heaven or hell, neither entity wants her as they each find her too annoying to deal with forever. So, instead of deciding where her soul would end up for eternity, Harley Quinn is sent back to Earth and is resurrected in the process.

Harley Quinn is basically immortal.

Harley Quinn’s almost supernatural ability to annoy her enemies to the point where she can get a leg up over them proves itself effective against elder, eternal entities. While this is the most powerful her "power of annoyance" has ever been, it isn’t the first time she’s used it. Harley Quinn can get under the skin of nearly anyone who threatens her, including and especially the Joker as shown earlier in this very comic book limited series.

Even with the weirdly powerful ability to annoy her way to victory in almost any given situation, the fact that she is unwittingly able to do so in order to come back to life seems like a one-time thing, though the Devil himself may have confirmed otherwise. When God and Satan resurrect Harley, they say they would see her later while also stating that they hope it won’t be for another millennium. The thing is, though, if both God and the Devil want Harley to live forever just so they don’t have to deal with her, as they so very bluntly make clear, then they have the power to do so, and it really seems like that will end up being the case given their wish for her to live for another millenium. Using her power to achieve victory by annoying her opponents even when she doesn’t mean to, in this case her opponents being God and the Devil, Harley Quinn proves that she is basically immortal.
