Harry Potter: 20 Things Ron And Hermione Did After Deathly Hallows

Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley are as much a part of the Harry Potter series as the Chosen One himself. Introduced from the beginning and standing by Harry's side for years, Hermione and Ron became richly developed and beloved characters. J.K. Rowling's beautiful writing for the characters was furthered by the perfect on-screen performances from Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. On the page and on the screen, fans got to watch their friendship grow into romance and see them mature from awkward first-years into young adults risking everything to save the world.

The Deathly Hallows epilogue made it well-known that they married and had children named Rose and Hugo Weasley. They remained close with Harry and Ginny, all four of them reuniting on Platform 9 3/4 to see their children off to Hogwarts.

The cherished nature of Hermione and Ron and the Harry Potter series as a whole means their story doesn't end there, though. Through Pottermore, interviews with J.K. Rowling, and the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the lives of Ron and Hermione are well-documented both after Voldemort's ultimate defeat and after the epilogue.

20. Hermione Found Her Parents And Restored Their Memories

Hermione and Ron were prepared to leave behind the comforts of their homes and Hogwarts in order to help Harry find and destroy Voldemort's Horcruxes. That didn't mean that they could forget all the people they'd leave in danger, though. They took the necessary precautions and for Hermione that meant altering her Muggle parents' memories. She made them believe they were Wendell and Monica Wilkins, a married couple that had no daughter and had always wanted to move to Australia. They packed their bags and moved to Australia, blissfully ignorant of their daughter and the dangers she faced.

Thanks to the steps she took, Voldemort's Death Eaters were unable to track down Hermione's parents and torture them for information concerning their daughter or her friends.

J.K. Rowling confirmed that immediately after the Second Wizarding War ended, Hermione went to Australia and restored her parents' memories. She brought them home and they presumably resumed their lives as dentists. Later on, they would become grandparents to Hermione's children Rose and Hugo.

As difficult as it was, Hermione did what she needed to in order to keep her parents safe, and as soon as she could made things right with them again, she did.

19. Hermione Completed Her Education

Harry, Ron, and Hermione missed their important 7th year at Hogwarts in order to locate and destroy Voldemort's Horcruxes. Even Mrs. Weasley can see they made the right decision in the end, but their bravery and ultimate triumph didn't mean they couldn't go back and finish their education.

Ever the model student, J.K. Rowling revealed that Hermione returned to Hogwarts to complete her 7th year and take the N.E.W.T.s (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests). Top grades in the N.E.W.T.s are essential for pursuing many careers in the magical world, including employment at the Ministry of Magic. Hermione's return was no doubt motivated by not only the necessity of having excellent N.E.W.T scores for the exemplary careers she planned to pursue, but also to properly culminate all her years of hard work and learning. No matter what Hermione went on to do, there's no doubt she'd always feel unsatisfied and regretful if she didn't finish her education. She wouldn't want to get offered a job because of her newfound fame when she could prove she deserved it with her extraordinary grades. If she was willing to time travel in order to take extra classes, there's no way she wouldn't return for her final year of school.

Harry and Ron, on the other hand, chose not to return to Hogwarts to finish their formal education. These decisions are certainly within their characters, but it's a little sad to think about the trio not all together for their final year and missing the opportunity to graduate together.

18. Ron And Harry Became Aurors

It's a little disconcerting to think that these slackers became Aurors, entrusted with upholding the law and protecting the magical world. The Ministry of Magic traditionally only hired Aurors with five or more top grades in their N.E.W.T.s, of which Ron and Harry had no grades because they didn't go back to Hogwarts for their final year.

In all seriousness, though, hiring Ron and Harry was a smart move by the new Minister for Magic--and Order of the Phoenix member--Kingsley Shacklebolt. With many Death Eaters still in need of rounding up after Voldemort's defeat, no one was better fit for such a job than those who'd fought on the front lines of the Second Wizarding War. Their real world experiences made them more qualified than anything they could've learned as 7th-years. Kingsley could trust them completely and he needed that, especially in a time when many individuals were trying to pull a Lucius Malfoy and make it seem like they hadn't fought with and supported Voldemort, or turned a blind eye in order to benefit from his regime.

J.K. Rowling feels becoming Aurors would've been a good thing for them, getting to finish the job instead of being pushed to the sidelines. Kingsley's faith in them paid off as they not only did the job, but helped revolutionize the Ministry into becoming the just, competent government it was always meant to be.

Harry's personality and skill set seem better suited to the Auror position in the long run than Ron, which is why Harry stayed there for many years while Ron eventually found a new line of work--to be revealed later on this list.

17. Hermione Made Life Better For House-Elves

Harry and Ron started working at the Ministry of Magic sooner than Hermione, but only because she took the time to finish her 7th year and take her N.E.W.T.s. Once properly graduated and achieving top marks, Hermione joined her best friends at the Ministry. Instead of the Auror Department, Hermione began her career at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.

As the second largest department at the Ministry of Magic, Hermione wisely used their resources to work on a cause near and dear to her heart. J.K. Rowling divulged that Hermione used her position to greatly improve the lives of house-elves.

It is inspiring to hear that the work Hermione began with S.P.E.W--the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare--continued into adulthood and her career.

This shows that activism at any level is the foundation for real, significant change. Even when she was mocked for it, Hermione stuck with S.P.E.W. and used her knowledge and experiences as stepping stones to create positive change for house-elves. After everything Dobby and Kreacher and even the other kitchen house-elves at Hogwarts did to help Harry, Ron and Hermione, it's only right that the lives of house-elves ultimately improved.

16. Ron Enjoyed His Wedding Night A Bit Too Much

Like a true Gryffindor, Ron often acts first and thinks later. This tendency has served him well many times, like in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when without hesitation he jumped in a semi-frozen pond to save Harry from the locket Horcrux trying to strangle and drown him. Other times this tactic hasn't worked out well for Ron, like in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when he tried to cast a Slug-Vomiting Charm on Draco Malfoy with a broken wand, a move that backfired horribly as pictured above.

Ron's wedding night proved no exception to acting first and thinking later. In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, he recalls that he got very drunk before the wedding ceremony and has almost no memory of the night afterwards. The following morning may have been met with a scenario not so different from coughing up slugs and slime into one of Hagrid's giant buckets.

The context in which Ron brings up this recollection is actually kind of sweet, though. He tells Hermione that because of how much he loves her, he wants to renew their wedding vows in front of lots of people--and to be sober during the whole thing.

15. Harry And Ginny Made Ron And Hermione Godparents

The tradition of godparents played an important role in the Harry Potter series, first with Harry's godfather Sirius Black and later when Harry became godfather to Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin's son Teddy. Sirius became a beloved father figure, mentor and ally to Harry while Harry made sure Teddy would always feel loved, even in a world where he had to grow up without his parents.

Harry and Ginny continued the tradition by naming the godparents of their first child, James Sirius Potter, as none other than Ron and Hermione. With Ginny as his mother, Ron and Hermione are also uncle and aunt to James. They're certainly the perfect choice as godparents to Harry and Ginny's first child.

Interestingly, Ron and Hermione were not made godparents for all of Harry and Ginny's children. Neville Longbottom was named godfather to Harry and Ginny's second child Albus Severus Potter. It hasn't been confirmed who their daughter and youngest child Lily Luna Potter's godparents are, though it certainly makes sense to think Luna Lovegood was made her godmother.

Between the naming of their children and who they made their godparents, it's beautiful to see how Harry and Ginny honored the most important individuals in their lives, and how wonderfully interconnected their family is with Ron and Hermione.

14. Hermione Translated The Tales Of Beedle The Bard

Left to Hermione by Albus Dumbledore's will, his copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard played an integral role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Beedle the Bard's collection of stories served as beloved bedtime stories to children for many generations, though it was "The Tale of the Three Brothers" story that proved most important for Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Dumbledore's copy of the book was written in ancient runes and Hermione used her knowledge from taking the Study of Ancient runes to excellent use, translating the meaning of "The Tale of the Three Brothers" in order to gain insight into the mysterious Deathly Hallows symbol. About a decade after the Second Wizarding War ended, Hermione translated the entire book from Dumbledore's original copy.

Her translation was published and also featured Dumbledore's notes for each tale. These notes were graciously provided by Minerva McGonagall.

These details were revealed in the real-life version of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, which in addition to "The Tale of the Three Brothers" features the stories that weren't told in The Deathly Hallows like "Babbity Rabbity and her Cackling Stump" and "The Fountain of Fair Fortune."

Leave it to J.K. Rowling to create and share a fascinating backstory that explains the publication of The Tales of Beedle the Bard within the Harry Potter universe.

13. Changing Pro-Pureblood Laws

Hermione's work with the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures created positive change for house-elves and the entire magical world. She sought to do even more good, causing her to move to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. This is a bit amusing as Hermione once told Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour that she wouldn't want to join the Department of Magical Law Enforcement as she intended to do some good in the world. As it turned out, Hermione started working there with a specific intention of how to use the department's resources for positive change.

Her intent was to eliminate oppressive, pro-pureblood laws. Voldemort's rise to power was evidence that too many laws still put purebloods in a position of privilege, while oppressing all others in the magical community. In fact, these privileges allowed many to fall in line with Voldemort's regime and turn a blind eye to the suffering of anyone who wasn't a pureblood, something Hermione was determined would never happen again.

Hermione worked to successfully eradicate these laws, likely with the support of Minister for Magic Kingsley Shacklebolt. Her initiative and leadership allowed her to become Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

12. Ron Worked With George At Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes

The life of an Auror may have been a good fit for Harry, but it eventually wasn't for Ron. He left the Ministry of Magic and joined his brother George at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. It is heartbreaking to think of George running the business without his twin Fred. It is equally heartwarming, however, to think of Ron joining his brother in running the company, the two of them working as co-managers and truly keeping it a family business that became even more successful than before.

The joke shop is ultimately a better for Ron's personality than the Auror Department. Ron's humor was always one of his greatest strengths, a trait that would serve him well while running a joke shop and thinking up new products.

By the time of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Ron still works at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes with his brother George. The years spent working together likely brought Ron and George closer together than ever before, but inevitably they'd also drive each other crazy at times.

Even if she's not a fan of the merchandise like the constipation-causing U-No-Poo, Mrs. Weasley must feel proud of her sons' success and the knowledge they work well together. There's no better way to honor the memory of Fred Weasley.

11. Dumbledore's Army Reunion

Despite all their different paths with families and careers, many members of Dumbledore's Army made sure to reunite at the final match of the 427th Quidditch World Cup. Located in Argentina's Patagonian Desert, Ron and Hermione attended with their children Rose and Hugo. They were also reunited with Harry and Ginny and their children James, Albus, and Lily. Other Dumbledore's Army members like Neville Longbottom, Luna Lovegood, her husband Rolf Scamander (and grandson of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them protagonist Newt Scamander), George Weasley, his wife Angelina Johnson and their children Fred and Roxanne also attended. Charlie Weasley, Bill Weasley, his wife Fleur, their daughter Victoire Weasley and Harry's godson Teddy Lupin were also there. Adults and children alike watched the match from their VIP box--except for Ginny whose career as a Quidditch journalist naturally led to her reporting live from the event.

The match featured Bulgaria against Brazil. Regardless of past jealousy, Ron openly rooted for Viktor Krum and Bulgaria to win, as did all individuals participating in the Dumbledore's Army reunion--though Victoire and Teddy were more interested in each other than the Quidditch. All of them were openly joyful when Bulgaria won, finally giving Krum his first Quidditch World Cup championship. It must've felt exhilarating to catch the game-winning Snitch, especially in contrast with the Snitch he caught to make Bulgaria's loss more respectable in the 422nd Quidditch World Cup against Ireland.
