Has a No. 15-seed ever made it to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament? The Saint Peter’s Peacocks are trying to be the first with a win against Purdue on Friday night.

March Madness is full of great storylines every year, but nothing beats an underdog seed advancing despite all the odds.

The Saint Peter’s Peacocks are the ones thrilling crowds with their can-do attitude and togetherness advancing them through to the Sweet 16.

Making it to the Elite Eight would be an unprecedented feat.

Saint Peter’s is trying to be the first 15-seed to make the Elite Eight

The simple answer is no. There has never been a No. 15 seed in the Elite Eight during the modern history of the NCAA Tournament. (Before 1951, every team in the tournament was in the Elite Eight.)

Cinderellas in the double-digit seeds have come and gone, most recently No. 12 Oregon State in 2021. The Beavers were only the second 12-seed to make it that far. That same year UCLA became one of nine teams that have advanced to the Elite Eight as an 11-seed.

No team seeded lower than a No. 12 has managed to get that far.

That’s what makes Saint Peter’s attempt so magical. The vast majority of No. 15 seeds don’t make it out of the first round, let alone win multiple games.
