How to measure hat size

1. Place a tape measure around your head positioned mid-forehead and just above the ears. 2. What size is my head? Take note of the measurements in centimeters or inches. 3. What's my hat size? Use the hat sizing chart to find what hat size you are.

How to read a hat sizing chart

Hat sizes are often measured in one of three ways:

The imperial system is used to measure head diameter in inches, which normally ranges between 6.5 and 8.

North Americans use the imperial system, although their sizes are an eighth of an inch larger.

European/Metric: Uses the metric system to measure head circumference in centimetres, which normally range from 53 to 65.

At Lock & Co., hat sizes range from small/55 cm to xx-large/64 cm.

What size do you recommend I purchase for caps? Do I get the same size as my existing fedora or trilby?

We recommend going 'up' a size in a flat cap. The peak of a cap should be 'easy' and snug against the back of the head.

How do you determine a women's hat size?

Use a flexible tape measure. Wrap it around your head, slightly above the ears and in the centre of the forehead. Measure the circumference of your head in centimetres or inches. Then, use the hat sizing chart to determine your hat size. Most of our couture hats have an adjustable elastic band to ensure a comfortable fit.

What is the average hat size for women?

The average hat size for women is 57 cm or medium.

How do I size men's hats?

Wrap a soft tape measure around your head, from mid-forehead to just above your ears. Measure the circumference of your head in centimetres or inches. Then, use the hat sizing chart to establish your hat size.

What is the average hat size for men?

The average hat size for men is 59 cm or large.

How can I make my hat tighter?

If you prefer your hat to sit a little tighter, consider using a hat filler. It reduces the hat size by around 1-2 centimetres.Contact us and we will gladly arrange for delivery to you, or you can come into the shop and pick it up yourself.

What should I do if my head measurement falls between sizes?

If you are unsure about your head size, please contact our customer support staff.

What if my head size is not available online?

We occasionally run out of sizes online, so be sure to opt up to be notified when they become available again. Then we will send you an email with a link to our website where you may purchase the item once it is back in stock.
